andy mitchell
We had a very hot day today up here on the tweed so i thought i might go see if any Bass were stired up. I arrived at one of my fave pools to find it fairly heavily choked with weed. I decided to have a flick into some gaps in the weed with my fave bass plastic ( 3 inch chartruse slider grub) . My problem was going to be how to land the fish through the weed as i was only using 6lb fireline and 8lb vanish. Third cast and "whack" i was on . The fish began by scorching across the surface before diving into the weed. I was bricked so I opened the bail arm and waited . 2 mins later and the line started to snake across the pool i came up tight and the battle resumed. Anyway a few anxious minutes later i landed a beautifully conditioned Oxley River bass. I took a few pics and then revived her and watched her swim off slowly through the weed. That was it as far as the fish were concerned but when I left 45 mins later i was still smiling. The fish is very bronze so maybe she did not move down to the salt this year. she had a big belly and went 45 cm to the fork. having probs attaching pics so will keep trying cheers andy Edited September 15, 2007 by andy mitchell
luffyjnr
NICE! We went for a BASS scout last week, in our area, headed up to Lake St Clair for a squiz. If we get a bass like that, mate we shall be very happy!!!! On the other side, I fish for bass in my area, Central Coast, NSW. So would like to know what you use to catch the buggers.. they are very very sly here. which I find a great challenge. I have fished with a dark red, hard bodied lure, which has been the best bass lure so far, but would like to get any tips on other lures Thanks, Luffy
andy mitchell
G'day luffy I grew up at Budgewoi. We used to catch a few Bass 25 years ago up in Ourimbah Creek. We used to float live black crickets and we got a few on celta's. I like targeting Bass on the surface and in summer a little black buggy pop is my favorite lure I think it must look like a cicada. Other than that chartruse sliders work great up here. good luck andy
