Beaver
Hi Raiders Headed out from Roseville 6am on Saturday and were greeted by good conditions, minimal swell, minimal wind and heaps of sun! Decided to try a few reefs and see what we could find. Started off near Long Reef and anchored up, we threw the burley cage over and rigged up. First fish comes up, a dreaded maori wrasse! Then up comes a big leatherjacket 45cm, kept him. Things weren't looking too good until my mate hooked up a nice fish, after a good fight he pulled in a nice 45 cm trevally. After a while a school of trevally were all around the boat, we had double hookups all over the place. One of the trevally was over 50cm, it was huge. We caught about 8 there within 30 minutes, not to mention about 8 sweep we also caught. Decided to leave the trevs and try elsewhere. Tried around bluefish and wouldn't you know it there were more trevs there! All around 40cm +. It was great fun pulling in these great fighting fish. We kept around 14 total and released about that many as well. We had enough fish for a great feed for us and the relos / neighbours so headed home early, content with all the action. I hope the action is this hot next outing... All fish taken on squid or peeled prawns. Beaver Edited September 18, 2007 by Beaver

james7
Beaver, thanks for spoiling my morning. It's bad enough being stuck inside, but reading a report like yours made it worse! Congrats on a great session. Those trevs over 45cm must have been great fun. Were you using light gear? Hope you and your friends enjoyed the feed. Well done mate Cheers

We were due for a good day out, last few sessions just the odd snapper, mowie, jacket etc. We were using heavier gear at the end, 10kg... I started off using light gear ( 3-4kg) but got busted off by a monster trev, then hooked another one and couldnt budge it. So I pulled my kingy outfit out hehe. They still fought real well on the heavier gear, the bigger 50cm ones pulled drag!
