paulcha11
Hi fellow raiders, Been a bit quiet over winter but looking forward to getting out there again this summer. SHould be a cracker! Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what is a good electric motor for a 3.85metre tinny I have. Just need it to make manouvering a little easier and in case the 4 stroke wont work(which it has done on occassion). Are there any brands I should stay clear of? I have heard of Mini Kodas but thats about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance CHARMO

davebrewer
I've ordered a Jarvis Walker 34lb Watersnake for my canoe-I went for it on the basis of good reports from other users, especially re. aftersale support, which hasn't always been the case with other brands, and of price-they are heaps cheaper than the others. You might be better looking at a bowmount, depending on how you fish-I'm tossing up putting one on my 5.4m Coxcraft but that is going to cost, and I'm not keen on cutting the bowrail. You'd probably only need a 44lb 12v though-$499 +battery etc, or $289 for a transom mount are the best prices I've found so far. Cheers, Dave.
Davemmm
I recently purchased the 44lb Jarvis Walker bow mount. I chose the size following recomendations from Fishraiders and advice from Stewey. Whilst I am still getting my head around the manner in which I should best put it to use, I can't complain at all about how it works. I run it on a 12' tinney and it pushes it along at very handy speed. Obviously it won't break a water speed record but it gets you in and out of spots beautifully. The Jarvis Walker seems to be the cheapest around but I think some of the other brands have a few bells and whistles lacking on the JW. One of the chain/franchise tackle stores recently had a catalogue out with the 44lb JW bow mount for $499 (I paid $400 but thats a whole other story) For keeping my drift straight and running in and out of moored boats or jettys and structure I have found this perfect and would recommend it no problems. tomahawk1999
Hey Charmo, I also have a Jarvis walker watersnake 34lb and i use it transom mounted on a 3.7m edgetrakker and can't fault it. I originally bought it for my 12ft canadian and it works great on this as well. Great value for money. Cheer's Rod.
paulcha11
Thanks to all for the informed responses. They have been a great help. Looks like the JW 'bow mount' might be the go for me. Cheers Charmo
