Thunder
Sydney FADS will be deployed by the middle of November at the latest. The GPS position will appear on this website once they are deployed. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recrea.../fads/locations Cheers Greg

jdy07
What are fads exactly and how do they work ? i know they attract fish but thats it ... lol
jewgaffer
They should put in a lot more FADS to make up for marine sactuaries. Well placed artificial reefs shown in the link wouldn't go astray either. Good news for the harbour ay, Greg I wonder how long it usually takes to populate a fad with fish. I know the fishing boats will populate them pretty quick. jewgaffer By the way Greg I'm just waiting for my son to get the stainless steel plate offcut and tubing for me for my two downriggers and I'll give you a call. I really appreciate your kindness mate thanks.
wildfish
jdy the fads are buoys which are fixed to the ocean floor by rope and i guess a cement block. because the dollies hang around floating debris you will find them around anything floating in the ocean like a tree branch a floating bucket a plastic bag or a fad ect. but the water has to be warm enough for them to come down this way! if you click on thunders link and have a look around you might find a bit more! wildfish
how long do we think before the fishing is good!
sanger
how long do we think before the fishing is good! Hard to say as the longer you leave it the bigger the fish as dollies grow pretty quick, but on the other hand leave it to long and it will be hammered by everyone else! Best to give it a couple of weeks for the ecosystem to set itself up..... unless it catches the eye of a few roamers........ Pretty crappy answer for you really sorry wildfish!!!!! Chris 55
The dollies we saw the other weekend were metre + but wouldn't take anything we tried (SP , Slugs. trolled) they were hanging under a big nylon mesh bag well until the school of dolphin showed up they were halfway back from Browns and we found them on the way home, so if the fad has been deployed it might be holding some by the weekend .... please Chris
sanger
Hey chris did you try a trail of pilchards like you would for tuna? can be quite effective if you can keep your boat in the right place!
Chris 55
No mate the dolphins rolled in before we could get the Pillies out and we thought bugger it just head back to the ramp we had a nice yft about 20kg so that divided in 2 after we finished cleaning the boat ....... Tuna blood gets in everywhere Chris

On my mates boat we make sure when we have knocked one off someone sits there with the deck wash and hoses the carpet for a while otherwise by the end of the day if you get a few the carpet ends up slippery as buggery!!!!
