kw367
Went out on the Hawkesbury solo today, without son PJ who is spending the weekend with Mum. Was nonetheless great to be out there. Lost several hooks, and was wondering what might have been taking them. Started using long shanks and landed a couple of school jewies and just under size bream. One of the jewies had swallowed the (long shank) hook, leading me to think that they might have been the culprits. Have any Raiders had a similar experience in the area, or have any idea as to what else may have been responsible (i.e. flathead, although I've never caught one at Bar Point). No pics today as I didn't have the photogenic one with me! Will put out a call to other boatless Raiders next time, maybe I could get some hot tips!! jewgaffer
Hi kw367 Nice to hear you picked up a couple of jew Hard to say what took your hooks, jew wouldn't even rough up a leader. It might have been big tailor down deep or you might have run into leather jackets. Eels can cause abrasions to leaders but not enough to cut the hooks off on a good leader, I don't think. You can't dismiss hairtail either. I've caught a couple in summer up there and also in very deep water near the moored boats at Wobby. I was up near Juno one time and my squid was getting hammered on the bottom by tailor and I ended putting 2/0 mustards on the jew rods and plastic tubing on the leader and got a lot of decent size tailor for bait. I shot off out of there because the tailor were too content for my liking and moved up to the rail bridge where there were no signs of tailor and I got quite a few jew that day and they hung around for most of the run in. Cheers jewgaffer
