Did anyone fish the sundowner bream comp in port macquarie on the weekend? I heard that there was quite a few people try to weigh in undersize bream and was wondering if there was any truth to it, and also if it is true why wasn't fisheries there issueing on the spot fines?

Rockyjack, I fished on the weekend and boy was it tough. In 3 days of fishing (prefish & 2 comp days) we managed only 1 legal. we were plagued by undersize fish. lost count of how many fell just short of the size limit. We could have had flathead fillets for a couple of months though.

Regarding your question about undersize fish, the comp size limit is 25cm to the fork of the tail. The few fish that I heard of that were rejected by the weighmaster were only just short of this and not the fisheries limit of 25cm to the end of the tail.

cheers, Greg

I wasn't aware that the comp was fork length, but now it doesn't sound so bad.

I have been fishing the river here pretty solidly for the past month and all I have caught are as you said just over or just under size bream and the occasional whitting, and it's really starting to drive me mad but at least there are enough 40+ cm flatties about to keep us busy.

Cheers Dave
