zen801
Hey Raiders, Went for a fish in Middle Harbour on Sunday low tide. Water is a bit dirty from all the rain and it was a bit windy. Usual spots had all shut down and the only fish i saw was a big one smashing something on the surface. Back at Roseville ramp i got breath tested by the police who also did a check of my safety gear. I didnt have a whistle/horn and this was the second time they have pointed out to me that i need one. I am going to take their advise and get one. A big blitz is on this year due to so many boat deaths so far this year. I think its a good time to make sure we are all ready in the event of an accident on the water. Being prepared might just save yours or a loved ones life. Cheers.

Were you tested as you approached the ramp or, as you dragged your craft from the water?

pelican
When they ask for the horn just vocally say "honk honk" and see how ya go. If they sat it isn't loud enough I'm sure you can do 85 decibels. The old rule used to be that the "sound device" had to be within reach of the helm as well. We have a pealess whistle on a lanyard next to the helm. The gas horns are useless as when you need them they will be corroded or out of air. Can't remember if it was required on every size boat - will have to look at the rules again. Edited November 5, 2007 by pelican
Marc_s
Mate they tested me at midday after my fishing trip Mate I did two safety checks on the same day! One water police and the other maritime. Second time I have been checked in 7 years and then twice on the same day. Like you I did not have a whistle or a horn and was warned. Not as if a ferry or cruiser will even hear it??? Guest Big-Banana
A big blitz is on this year due to so many boat deaths so far this year. Then get some presence on the water and stop the idiots in their tracks. Doing what they're doing is just revenue raising.

Yeah mate sort of agree with you on that but they didnt fine me. They had a chat explained what i needed and left it at that. On Sunday the Spit and MH was crawling with cops and MSB and i saw them pull over a few people speeding through the Spit. On Sunday they were booking the idiots and doing PR with others. Robbielites
Hi mate, I was out Sunday as well and didn't do any better than you, I talked to four other guys and only one had a hit all day. I only managed three squid in three hours The ones I did get were on a jig recommended by a fellow member all my favourites failed dismally The water was filthy with lots of debris, it made speeding through The Spit nearly impossible with all the trees in the water Cheers. bart
Good to see the law out there earning a crust.Whether it be for their paypacket or topping up the government coiffers,as log as the idiots and the lairs are caught. At least hitting them in the pocket is one small way of getting the message across. Cheers Bart
marlin1962
good to see them out there trying to stop more boating deaths, there is to many cowboys out there that don't give a s#*T about the rules and regulations on the water. Boating is a dangerous sport but some people don't realize that. Keep your safety gear up to scratch at all times and you will always come home smileing, not with -( if we only had just--;--). ;; STAY SAFE FELLOW RAIDERS;;
