Cheers.
jewgaffer
Hi Steve. After the rain we've had lately which has been something like 5 inches in places, it's best to fish down deep for general species in estuaries. I've had very good bi catch results in very deep water after heavy rains over the years, some of my best flathead and bream, even got bonito down deep well behind the Juno boats. I let the smart looking boats do all the work on the day and sit well back behind them on the grouter to hopefully make it more like a fair game of tennis when the jew come in, like 6-0, 6-1, 6-0 If you're keen for action go out a bit outside the heads and motor back to wherever the water changes colour as best you can estimate from a distance but take a peep around middle harbour early to try and work out the look of the water from recent tide cleansing as the harboutr recovers very well due to the lack of mountains along the river. I notice it is warmer in the backwaters but I am not sure how the water looks, maybe too muddy and a lack of oxygen will drive the fish down into deep water or further out into the salt. Yakkas are very hardy so they may well be hanging around in the murky areas, I should imagine there would be yakkas around Roseville boat ramp, but flathead would best be fished by trial and error, motoring away and going up a few levels in clarity if she's really murky up there . Predators come in to clean up near entrances after big rains and north easterly swells suit and make it harder going for bait fish so they seem to be stuck in between. Cheers jewgaffer
roosterman
thanks guys, i was planning on trolling the dr's along nth/sth head areas and as long as swell/wing permit peek outside along cliffs... i was not real worried about temps in the fact i was curious whether it would push the fish outa mh etc into the main harbour... but on thinking about it they would prob stay in mh as its a very deep water body.. hi jewgaffer, i changed my rigs last night over to a xxx treble as a stinger instead of single hook and size thats big enough for kings but small enough to hook a bycatch bream/red etc... i will prob use it in head tentacle area of squiddies and prob elastic band to rear of fish baits or even swinging free..... did you get better results sitting outside the pack at juno.. iv never done that great there but nearby (i thing youd know where) ive had better success.... fishlexic that would be great for those temps mate... let us know how you go out there... weathers really fining up now ..... cheers guys....
