russel_pollard
hey Fisho Gurus, Wondering if I could pick your brains I have recently purchased a small tinnie (310 Quintrex Dart) and Im thinking about installing a fish finder and was wondering if anyone else had taken on something similar? Currently looking at a transom mount for the transponder but I have to store the boat upright on its transom which could be problematic on the bracket and on me having to remove the transponder/whole lot post fishing. Is there a more portable option? Also any suggestions on display unit and mounting it on, I would assume the rail would be helpful. Cheers guys

IWANNABROCK
Can you sit tinnie on block of timber to hold transducer off ground? I have a 12 foot tinnie used a piece of aluminium angle and stainless bolts with silastic to bolt to side of boat to mount sounder on so I can see it from helm position. Dalucius
I set up one for our old tinnie inside an old tackle box with sponge supports. A small 12v battery, cable and the screen fit nicely inside. You can then move the box around the boat if you want. It was a rush job when I wanted to use it so we just used waterproof tape to attach the transducer to the boat. Worked like a dream. I now want to mount it to our electric motor at the front of the boat.
Davemmm
I have my transducer mounted on a stainless steel slide that allows me to remove it. With a tinney it isnt just storage that creates a problem but also running up on the sand etc. Unfortunately my camera is bung at the moment so I cant show exactly what the bracket is but it is a two piece slide with a locking pin that is quite common on sailing boats. The base that is mounted on the transom is about 3-4mm deep and then a "c" sort of shape piece slides over the top. Will post a pic when the paint is removed from my camera lens (a whole other story) Dave

russel_pollard
Wow - thanks for all the feedback guys. Certainly a few things to consider while pretending to do my day job For ref - at the mo, it looks like a combination of the tackle box display and transport option with a suction cup transponder until I can sort out the sliding bracket idea Thanks for all the feedback Edited December 3, 2007 by Zuluboy

Just buy a Furuno 4001. Transducer on slide. You can take it right off when travelling. That way. you get a good Dual Freq, Sounder. with removable T.Ducer for about $370. I mounted mine on seat beside me. On my Quinnie 3.7 roof topper. One Stainless screw in centre of mount base. so you can swivel to suit sun. Run from a gell Cell. Kept in plastic Kitchen box. Velcro'd to seat .. Alternatively. Look for a second hand Raymarine 400 Digital colour. Brilliant little machine. cost about same 2nd hand. Both 1000 times better than any of cheap ones. For not too many more $$$. Might as well get best for money if you can. Just another alternative. meatgroup
Yeah mate - a pic would be pretty handy to get a better idea This is my first post ... so hi people. I am normally a gold coast based fisher but work sees me in perth for the next few months before its off to Darwin for a year - looking forward to it for sure. I own a 4.2m Clark Abalone and I have a sliding mount installed on the transom for just this purpose. I put a small plate mount onto the transducer - I can remove it entirely if I want. I find it useful because when I beach the tinny for a swim or snorkel I can raise the transducer so it does not break off on the sand. I have attached a pic of the slide. I will attach a pic of the plate on the transducer when the missus brings the keys home ... grr Hope this helps
