plankton
A lot of talk about Kingies in the Harbour, but I hadn't caught 1. I've had a fair crack at em but to no avail. Thought it best to troll for em - an older, favourite and more reliable method. Got an early mark from work.. knew I would and had prepared the boat earlier. Met my mate at the ramp and we were heading through the Spit by 3. Trolling South Head and before long the little Abu starts screaming, and not too much longer after that so does the Sea Line. A double hook up and it was obvious they were kingies... at last! I was more excited about getting the second striker in as it had scoffed an x-wrap 15 and thought it a better fish than the 1st which had taken the cd-7. But it managed to get away leaving me to bring in a dead old wait of a fish. It was apparent from the way it swam along the surface towards the boat that it was in trouble. Unfortunately the lure had been scoffed right down and brought part of its gills back through its mouth. The fish was just on legal (65cm) and was quickly blead and iced down. We trolled the rest of the headland and back for a couple of dropped strikes. Plankton!

plankton
The first Kingy I ever caught was in Middle Hrbour using a hard bodied lure which resembled a pilchard and was approx. 10cm long. Since then I have caught stacks of them on lures. It is obvious, I guess, that I'm another fisho who finds it hard to catch squid!

Not as hard as myself on the squid front, but I still persevere. I am new to middle harbour and launched (for the first time) from Tunks Park. I have to say a very nice area to launch from. However, any tips on where nearby to gather live bait? I had to go out past the spit bridge to gather some livies, but Im sure there are lots of places before getting to the spit bridge. Any help appreciated. Cheers, Jeff

If you head upstream of the Spit towards Roseville there are some nice deep channels along the way where you can catch Yellow Tail, Slimies and Squid too. Try burleying up in Bantry Bay and along its surrounding foreshores to the South, particularly on the esatern bank. Roseville Bridge can produce hoards of Herring and Yakkas too. If you want Mullett you can catch them beyond Roseville Bridge during Summer.
