royboy
G'day all. Thought this was worthy of a post. Got up early this morning for a fish before the got up. It was the bottom of low tide so drove down to Cabarita park thinking that fishing from the rocks and the beach there might be the go. Nope. Wrong there. Tried sps and hbs but not a single touch. Bummer. Only had an hour left before wanted breakfast ready. So tried Bayview park on the way home. Threw an untried hb from the beach and got a touch but no hook up. Third cast and I'm on! A couple of small runs, swimming from left to right, then left again and a nice little bream is landed. It was a little over 20 cm, I think. (Santa didn't bring me a ruler for Xmas ) Another couple of casts later and something huge takes the lure. This was a much bigger fish and I was thinking it was a big flattie. But no head shakes and four big runs that made the stradic sing so sweet (gotta love that sound) made me think otherwise. Finally got it close to shore and a nice sized bream is landed. Would've easily been over 30cms and nudging 35 cms I reckon. Was pulling up weed once in awhile so tried a newly purchased popper to see how it went. Blop, blop, blop and a few casts later a small bream is hooked. Didn't really fight hard for its life but a bream nonetheless. The popper was so realistic that I even caught a seagull with it. Didn't fight at all as the line was caught around its wing and couldn't take off . So after dragging it to shore, shut it up by letting it bite on my finger, retrieved the lure and was released to fight another day. Shortly after, fish went off the bite and the wind picked up so went home to prepare breakfast for the hungry . Cheers. mottyman
Nice one Roy, I haven't been land based breaming in H&C for the best part of a year now... I'm on hols for a while yet so might pick a high tide and head down to abbotsford and have a throw with plastics. Cheers David.

royboy
Nice looking fish roy can iu ask what HB's you used one looks like a shallow running chubby but i carnt make out the others? G'day snag. They're cheap as chips lures that I got on a popular online auction site. They only cost ~$10 for 4, incl postage. I lost a couple of my fav lures last week due to the albright knot catching on the guides (something about crystal fireline on fluorcarbon, I think), so thought I'd give these a go testing out the double uni. Yep, you're right about the chubby. Although cheap it has a nice swaying action thats almost sexy and swims straight. And the other was a popper with a nice finish that even fooled a seagull. Made nice blop blop sounds instead of splash splash. Cheers, Roy.

Bass absoutely love the green with black stripes in the chubby model as well as the little poppers. You're actually the first person I've come across who's also using them. Keep going with them... they're great. Cheers,

I usually grab the sx40s, strike pros, mirashads etc first when I fish but didn't want to lose another one this morning. I'll have to try them out on the bass one day. Thanks. RPL
Good stuff, do you find that the bream are easier to get on HB rather than SP's?
royboy
Good stuff, do you find that the bream are easier to get on HB rather than SP's? I've only been using lures for bream for about a year now and yep, I reckon more bream have been caught on HBs than SPs to date. But there are probably other fishos who are the opposite. HBs have their inbuilt action so even a slow roll will catch fish whereas SPs have to be worked a lot harder to attract a bite. Catching more bream on HBs probably reflects my laziness and lack of persistence with SPs. Cheers.
