Bastards

Mongrels!! There are opportunists everywhere. Looks like you have to padlock everything down!!! Also check your towbar coupling for the trailer - they have been known to undo those as well! We have ours padlocked on now ......we also have a lockable hayman reese attachment to the van for the same reason - too easy to undo the whole tow bar & put it onto their vehicle & take off!!

These little beasties are soooo easy to be removed from your vehicle if they are not locked on!

Cheers

Some low-lifes had a go at my spare & winch post at the same ramp. Someone must have disturbed them because I found most of the nuts undone. I've now welded a heavy chain link on the the winch post and trailer, and I run a large cable & security padlock through the post link, trailer link, and spare wheel. Now they'll need a pair of 4' bolt cutters instead of a spanner. That might slow them down a bit.

Regards,

Barry.

A few years back at Roseville i found a guy in the middle of taking my hub caps or wheels and when i confronted him he turned towards me with a wheel brace in his hand.

My tip is dont confront the mongrels. I should have just got his details by stealth and then given him up to the cops.

One of my mates had his trailer stolen from Church Point (Bayview Ramp) yesterday. I am not aware what sort of security devices that he had installed. He has had a bad run with this rig because he has not long had it back from being recovered by the police from a shed in Riverstone. The boat (Pacific #####) and trailer had been stolen from outside his house!

camera phones are wonderful. Take a stealthy photo or 2 and phone the coppers. If they return to their car with your stuff in their possession just park your car in front and walk away or lock yourself in. No confrontation is worth endangering yourself. Take some more photos and record their threatening behaviour or lies . Most of all follow through and make sure the are convicted.

You have to wonder with whole trailers being stolen if the guys actually watch you launch and go down the river as a trailer not matched to a particular boat is too much hassle for the average scumbg to bother with.

Check with local businesses as many have video and if you can limit the time frame to when you left you may well see their car driving off and tell the police so they can formally recover the video as evidence. There are cameras everywhere these days - go have a look and see - every pub , bottleshop etc can't get insurance without them and most may focus on the register but the carparks are inthe bakground.

Put a note up at the ramp. Many reglars may have seen something suspicious but not done anything

Hope the mongrels get caught as the last theft from us cost $5000 over the insurance claim to get boat and gear back to same standard.

On my recent trip to Myola, JB, the first day that i was out on the water some bastards tried to break into my hilux.

They tried to smash the driver window and now i have about 10 chips and scratches in it.

When i talked to one of the local houses up the road they said that unfortunatly its common at Myola Ramp.

So just a warning to anyone launching there, drive up to where the houses are and park youe car and trailer out the front of them, the people that live there are really nice, and keep a look out also its not so isolated as ramp is.

Luke.

  • 4 weeks later...

To keep your trailer even more secure, before setting off take the cotter pin out that is connected to the towball lock and put a small padlock through the hole. This should stop any theiving bastards from nicking your trailer.
