pelican
bought a new sounder erlier this year and it worked fine when i got it! ive been trying to fine tune it by moving the transducer up and down(being inexperienced and winter so nothing was showing up!). sounder shows good picture but constantly loosing bottom now which was not happening before! and always at the wrong time! ive moved the transducer back to original spot but still loosing bottom! is there a problem with my transducer? Go to Oxford street - plenty of bottom there - hard , soft some lost as well. You could even buy your missing bottom I believe Gee I hope you have a sense of humour. Just been in middle harbour wiping bottom Thrill of having a moored boat in thefamily so I know my bottoms quite well - fibreglass ones at least. Well now for propper botty talk. Are you also losing bottom at idle or drift or only when moving? Tranducers are sightly differently positioned on all boats but generally need to be set uo so the leading edge is in clear non airated water just below the line of the bottom of the hull. They generally work better for me slightly angled forward a degree or 3. You probably know that. Many sounders have a setting that allows you to only scan a particular subsection of the water column (eg 40-50 feet) and therefore if you end up in water deeper than 50 the bottom won't show. Give you a clearer more accurate view and removes all the clutter of surface or deeper water. Different brands call it different names in their menus like range. Another setting is bottom lock or track - check your instructions. Someone here will have the same brand and tell you the right terminology and what menu it is in. Hope that helps your bottom Bottoms up Pel.

pjbink
yeah! it looses bottom drifting and underway! and im glad i cant find bottom at oxford st! This sounds like the Fawlty Towers episode when Basil says to the American - "Keen on bottoms aren't you". It could be a power problem. Perhaps your battery is a bit flat or there is a problem with the wiring. A likey place is the fuse holder. Open it up and check for corrosion.
