Browny
Hi everyone A mate of mine and I are relatively beginner fishermen (both of us did a bit of fishing growing up but havent really done anything serious for years) and neither of us are originally from Sydney. We are looking for places to go that wouldnt be too far for us to travel where we can get into a bit of decent fishing action. We live in the inner west and are (being from the bush) better equipped for estuary/river land based fishing (neiher of us have access to a boat or have any beach gear). We were thinking of maybe heading down to the Port Hacking this weekend. Basically anywhere that is within about an hours drive of Newtown would be suited to us for starters. Anyone got any hints they're willing to share? Cheers, Browny
Davemmm
Do a search in the fishing report section on "Lilli Pilli"or "Wallys wharf". Their both reasonable places in the Hacking for landbased. I hear that the carpark on the north side of Tom Ugly's Bridge is fishing alright for bream at night also. Dave
skramp_84
Hey Mate, Try cliffton Gardens. Its only about half an hour away from you and is a top spot. Do a search for it here and I'm sure you will get excited. Apart from that, you could basically walk over to glebe at night, burley up and hook some decent bream, just don't eat them. davester28
Or just walk around the foreshores of Iron Cove (near the City-West link) and Hen and Chicken Bay (near Lyons Rd West). Almost guaranteed a catch of bream, flathead and/or whiting.

landbased
I'm from around that area and in the same circumstances. I find that Clifton Gardens is good on the north side, alos I get a good feed from Gunamatta bay from tome to time and also from lilly pilli (both are basically the hacking) also if you dont mind a little drive go into the royal national park and hit the sand flats at mainbar, good for flathead and whiting at the moment. also where you guys from? Browny
Thanks for the tips guys. We've decided to head down to Lilli Pilli sand bar and try and give some flatties a bit of a nudge this weekend. Landbased, Im originally from Dubbo, but spent a few years up in Newcastle at Uni. My mate is originally from Parkes.

My mate is originally from Parkes. I think you will strugle to get to the sandbar being landbased. There is a channel between the shore and the flats. Plenty of blokes seem to fish off the baths into the deep but there is also a number that fish into the channel. It runs along from the point down to the baths and is a couple of metres deep. Mainly a sand base. You can probably reach the far drop off from the bar with a good cast. The channel does actually fish alright from time to time mainly for flathead and whitting and early in the morn bream against the rocks. As this is the secondary channel the water doesnt flow as hard so it makes it easier to fish from the shore. Dave

Also you can walk further west to the point that siddles up to the Fisheries depot. Fish near the wall that divides the public and the fisheries for bream and sometimes trevs but more often Luderick Dave
