roosterman
hi guys, well little roosterboy was asking to go fishing this afternoon so i needed no more prompting an gave the pass out... headed over to taylors point wharf and got there around 2pm with howling NE... rigged squid jig up for roosterboy and he began expertly working the weed beds. bloody amazing as he is only 5... saw what i think was the abt guys hooning back towards bayview an gee that looked like a very uncomfortable ride in that wind chop... back to fishing tried flicking for squid for a while an big "0" so put on a gulp 3" minow in lime tiger looking for bream etc and flicked away in the increasing NE'ster.. had alot of picks and my now modded lure ended up with some increasing action... i was just lifting lure from bottom at base of wharf when just under it apeared a rat king around 55 - 60cm,i immediately stopped as lure was an inch or 2 under surface an king circled it then smashed it full boar head on... now i was laughing my head of as soon as i spotted him as i only had 6lb mono leader with 6lb fireline as main on a cheap viva 2000 real... that real sung a tune it never expected to sing (me either) and strange enough the king was heading straight away from wharf. was this guy dumb or what,or new he had me out gunned ... i wish all the kings i hooked would play fair like that... anyway after about 15 to 20 seconds i was contemplating upping the drag when piiiiiiiiiiiing leader pops.... oh well i was still laughing at the time for at least 10 min or so... really got roosterboy excited as he is yet to see dad catch one. oh well next time eh... so has anyone got them on little 3"lime tiger minows before ???? i think over the last few month my by catch has been very extra ordinary,,, maybe i need to rethink my next kingy outing.mmmmmmmm maybe target taylor/salmon etc and get a feed of kingies instead flicked another minow fast retrieving looking for his mates for another half hour an pulled the pin as wind was really bad by 3.30.. all in all a great little session with my little roosterboy, just wish he got something... cheers... steve.. snapper hunter
Nice try there but badluck on ur gear ive caught a rat kingie around 55cm at lilli pilli last yr on a small feather like lure only like 4-5cm long i also lost a few that day so they will take anything if they are on the bite. RPL
Not uncommon they are very inquisitive, i have seen some up to 1m come under the tender as we sail around Bate bay.
daleyboy
I hooked onto a decent one with a gulp 3" bass minnow in pumpkinseed once .. was using 10lb braid with 15lb leader .. he played me for about 5 mins till i got it somewhere near the boat .. then he said goobye PING! Worse thing was that i'd thrown every lure i had at em for about 30 mins prior and had given up and was trying for a flatty casting toward the shore ... and of course i only had that 1 gulp left so i couldnt go again for round 2! autocad
Great fun on light gear... I hooked a king at CG a while back on bream gear on a peeled prawn. Lasted about 20seconds but I had a smile on my face all day.
