Mariner 5hp 2 Stroke (are They Goverend?)

Is the Mariner 5hp 2 stroke 90's model restricted at the carby to be 5hp?

Is there any tricks to get a bit more power out of these outboards?

I just figured that they wouldn't have had different motors for the lower powered models and thought they might have restricted it to 5hp and an adjustment to the carby or something along those lines would free her up a bit?

Even at full speed the motor doesn't sound like its working hard . . .

What are your thoughts guys?

Hi Kjd, the 4HP and 5HP Mercury are the same, so basically no you can not do much to that engine to make it go better. The next one up being the 6HP is a twin cylinder powerhead, which is the same as the 8HP and you can make them go better, but not your 5HP.

You have the big brother in that family,

Cheers,

Huey.

Bugger!!!

Thanks for that mate I was hoping I had the little brother clearly I do not lol...

I changed the spark plug and used premium fuel (95RON) and it seemed to run a bit better but yeah I was really hoping it was going to be a governed motor  Oh wells!

Thanks again Huey!
