amkulic
Hi everyone, Just a quick question, when using live yakkas/ slimies what technique do you use to rig them and how do you present them? For example when at anchor/drifting the markers in the Harbour - Do I hook through the backbone or the lip/top jaw? - Where abouts in the water column do I put them, i.e let them swim freely unweighted, or put a sinker on so it sits on the bottom with line for it to swim around? Thanks for any info Cheers

amkulic
http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.ph...;hl=live+yakkas Thanks for the link mate..... im just talking about though when you drop it off the side of the boat, i.e do people use big sinkers to get them to the bottom to sit there, or just unweighted? The Poacher
Hi, The fish move around, but are generally mid water. You dont typically want to be on the bottom IMHO. Sideways through the nose is fine as long as you use a 6/0. One hook is best as they always eat yakkas from the front to avoid the spiky tail flukes. Two hooks is just dangerous when you lift a 80cm king aboard anyway. Only use 2 hooks if you have slimies or squid and even then be really, really careful. Hope you get some. Use a sinker if you need to, it doesnt really worry kings, they arent that clever. Poacher

stylo
That would depend on where the fish are feeding and where you want the bait to be sitting.
Robbielites
Don't be afraid to use a weight to get them where you want them. Check your sounder for activity and try and get them around that area. If you don't have a sounder drop them to the bottom and come up 2-3m to start with. Use what ever wieght you need to stop them moving too much and tangling lines. I use any thing from a ball sinker to a larger barrel depending on the current/tide ect. I also cable tie through the eye and attach hook there. Robbie.
