tricks
hey guys will be heading up to the whitsundays in april for a week long fishing trip. will be targeting the usual fish like gt's, coral trout etc. i have my trolling gear and reef gear already but would like a nice spinning outfit that will handle these fish. mainly for casting poppers and lures. any ideas on rod and real that would be suitable for casting big lures and have plenty of power. cheers patrick

macka17
Hi. I made up a similar oufit recently. Used daiwa Capricorn 4500J,reel. With 30lb Tuff Line. I chose a Berkley Saltwater dropshot.6 ft 10in, Just to try one on poppers. But there's plenty of mid range sticks on market will do the job. Once you get above 20/30lb. Prices go through roof. I've also got Accurate 870n. and Saltiga's with Jap jig sticks too. But that little setup will pull some nice ones in, as well as Spinning reasonably too. have fun up here. it's great.. marus8504
G day mate if you are looking for a reel that will handle 20lb - 30lb braid and something that will take a beating, you should have a look at the shimano bait runner 4500 and maybe a rapala braid concept stick or the berkly drop shot, you should be able to get this combo for under 500 dollars good luck mate you love it up there
