Searching For That Jewfish!

Inspired by recent reports and Joe’s great fish I left work a noon Friday, to hit Bayview ramp about 3 pm. Headed for a drift at the Hawkesbury mouth but as I thought the wind was too strong so headed for the rail bridge. Motored around a few of the rail pylons and found one that showed promise. Anchored up and out went the baits. Picked up a few small bream which all went back.

Anchor pulled and we drifted past the pylon before we picked up again. Eventually caught my Jewfish all 25 cm of it which had taken white bait set for flathead or bream. Anyway removed the two hooks which were deep and returned it to the water in the hope it may just live. Unfortunately we had a floater, however within a minute an eagle or hawk swooped down and headed off with its now dinner.

Gave the rail bridge a miss around six and it was still blowing a small gale. Headed for Juno anchored up for the run out tide. Stayed till 9.45 pm for two small bream and 1 eel. :ranting2::ranting2::ranting2::ranting2::ranting2::ranting2:

If there is one thing that recks a days fishing plans it’s the wind!!!!!!!

Went out the front door about 4:30 this morning, I even rechecked the forecast and it was SW 10 knots, tendings at 15, freshening 15/20 in the evening.

Well it looked at 10 knots or better when it was dark which doesnt bode well for when the sun comes up.

Went to west head, picked up a couple of yakkas and slow trolled around there a couple of times and then zig zagged down Pittwater.

Even done a couple laps around the bay that the rats where in last weekend but nothing.

By now the wind was blowing 15/20 so went back to west head to see if that was any better, it was terrible, with the tide going one way and the wind another it looked like a washing machine, in my little boat anyway.

Then went down to F&S but it was like Pitt St, done a couple of drifts on the sand on the outside of the anchored boats, sometimes you can get a good flatty doing this.

Went home about 10, thats fishing.

Next time the wind blows and I am out I might see if I can find refuge in Cowan and still fish. It did not matter which way the wind blew in the Hawkesbury as it funnelled its way through and you just could not get out of the wind.

Good luck with your fishing
