martymonsta
Hey guys and gals, I have recently purchased a Hobie fishing kayak which has been a lot of fun in the estuaries for the bread and butter species (bream, flathead, whiting) but now with all the reports of kingies caught in the harbour I'd love to try and have a good at landing a few from the kayak. I have the gear and the determination just don't know where in the harbour I could go to target them. I've read about channel markers throughout the harbour but are there any spots that consistently hold the kingies? I don't mind paddling (or pedaling on the Hobie) a few k's to get to the fish just not sure where I could launch and head to find them. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks guys Marty Edited February 5, 2008 by MartyMonsta
yakfishing
Hey another member of the Hobie club! Theyre great arent they? I would love to target kings too, but wanna upgrade my gear first Ive got a good estuary setup, but not for kings. Southerly should point you in the right direction i think he targets kings in the harbour on his yak. Good luck!
Black CC
I suggest you launch at Clifton Gardens, which gives you lots of markers within a reasonable distance. I often drop the Kayak in there and try the big drum North of the Naval jetty first, then the Neilson Park marker, then the Wedding Cake then the 2 Marker bouys where the Western Wedding Cake used to be. This gives you 5 alternatives and the paddle is about a 5km round trip if you need to go to all 5 markers (unlikely at the moment). arpie
Yay! Another Hobie fanatic!! Well done, Marty! I have heard they are around the moorings of Balmoral, too - easier to launch & I don't think they charge for parking! Also around Spit Bridge . Look forward to reading your reports of a hookup!
