Thanks Yarraone, but I live in Springwood and Lithgow is about as far as I go for a day trip with the wife and kids. I am heading off with a mate in a few weeks though for an overnight trip and we haven't made up our minds where we are going. Haven't been to Ben Chifley before. What is in there besides redfin?

Last time I was there in 1st week of October. Water has risen dramatically (they allowed boats), there was a lot of weed, algae and the shore/water looked like that:

So the fishing was not good at all. After these recent rains I'd guess its not gonna be much better.

Anyone been to Lake Lyell recently?

I,ve been 3 out of the 4 last week ends and bagged a total of 11 fish both on bait and on fly (dry)

I normally get there just after first light and fish till 10 or 11am.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure what all the recent rain will do to the fishing but I still might give a bit of trolling a go.

Steve,

They mainly get rainbows to up to the 4 pound mark but the big browns are in the deeper waters near the dam wall.

9 out 10 fish I get there are rainbow as I do a lot of my fishing land based in the upper reaches.

I did nail a 6lb brown on a baltic minow once but thatwas my biggest brown.

Cheers

Just to let you know Roffo, we trolled for about 3.5 hours with 3 lines out. 1 at between 15 and 20m down, 1 at about 7m down and the other about 3m. Heaps of fish on the fish finder, mostly they were 15 to 18m down and not at all interested in our offerings. Top day for a cruise around the lake though. Only saw 1 other boat and they weren't fishing.

Steve,

Sorry to hear that you struck out, I did nail a good fish on Sunday morning though.

I got there 1/2 hour before day break and the fish seemed to be feeding on little mozi type bugs on the top, the sound of all of the fish feeding was incredible. This went on till 1 hour into day break'

What time did you go out ?

I tent to fish in the upper reaches away from the power boats and jet skiis.

What were you dragging around ?

I did notice a few empty mudeye shells on the shore line but left the fly rod at home.

Cheers

The time is my biggest problem. We didn't get there until 8.30am. I love it when the family come along, but it is hard to get them out of bed early enough. At different times I tried dual depth tassie devils, standard tassies in a few colours including yellow wings, rapala cd5 in rainbow trout colour, gold spoons and brown trout 50mm soft plastic fish. The ones behind the down rigger were also behind a silver 100mm dodger.

How big was your fish Roffo? Rainbow or brown? Were you using bait or lure?

Mate,

It was a 68cm rainbow which took a worm under a bubble float within the first 10 minutes of me being there, I ended up patting it on the head and let him go.

I did get a nice 3 pounder on a green and gold tassie at about 8.30am and another smaller fish on my last worm.

I'm looking at another sesh in a couple of Sats time if your interested.

Cheers

Roffo
