Roffo Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Morning All, Another great start to a Sunday morning, After all the rain in the last week I managed to scoop up 5 nice fat worms off my driveway for yet another trip to Lake Lyell. After hitting the waters edge by6.00am I flicked a bubble out with a 1 metre dropper and rested the rod in a tube, after a few minutes I put a green black and gold tassie devil on a spinnig rod and had a few flicks when I noticed my bubble had disapeared. I grabbed the rod out of the tube and slowly took up the slack (fireline and a quivertip rod make a great combination) I set the hook and must of lost 30 metres of line in a few short seconds, 7 or 8 minutes later had a nice 68cm rainbow in the landing net, this was the biggest rainbow I had seen there in a few years so it had to go back (what a buzz). About 45 minutes later after 2 misses on the tassie devil I finally nailed a nice 42cm rainbow who jumped around like Queen fish (beauty one in the bag) After dropping a smaller fish on the float with my last worm It was about 9.45am and time to head back via Bilpin to grab some fruit and honey. However further up stream through out the morning I heard a couple of quite large splashes which may have been bass but will need to investigate further as it sounded to agressive for trout. Anyway this should get me through another week. Cheers Roffo
troutboy Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Well done Roffo sounds like you had a great morning, gee thatas a good size rainbow, amazing how bait seems to pull the big trout. Ispent yesterday morning at Wentworth falls lake and drew a blank, will definately be heading west next time out. cheers troutoby
gretsch Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 (edited) A 68 rainbvow is awesome.. I haven't fished Lake Lyell for 15 years. What is the capacity at the moment? Have you ever tried soft plastics in there? Edited February 11, 2008 by Ceph
Roffo Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 The water level at a guess is about 60% mark, as far as sp are concerned I normally use the berkley 2 inch power grub in the p/seed colour on bream and flatties but wouldn't know what to use on a trout. What would you guy's use ???? Cheers Roffo

Ceph, Many thanks mate, did broom boy use them on a weighted jighead or a spinner bait type rig? Cheers Roffo
gretsch Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) He rigged it on a small hig head - probably 1/8 to 1/4 oz with a 1/0 hook. The secret was in the action. He jigged it back slowly with subtle twitches and focused on the snags and mid water. Use the little ones - size 1 and 2 or so. They look superb in the water. Next time I am at Eucumbene, I am going to try this method. Let me know how you go if you try it. Edited February 12, 2008 by Ceph

PJ Garn Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Well done Roffo on a great session at lovely Lake Lyell!!! Well worth the $4.50 entry fee I expect!!! I love it when they jump and dance like that!!! Sounds like Lyell is fishing well at the moment... presently it's at 51% capacity according to Delta Electricity who use it to supply the power station in Lithgow!!! No pics of your catch??? I always throw the camera in the tackle bag mate just in case!!! Cheers PJ Garn
Roffo Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 Because of that fish I just got my first digital camera so we will see how it goes. I just need to learn more about computers and find out how to post a photo. Cheers Roffo
