My motor stalled at 3/4 throttle on Sunday which I put down to a fuel problem... it started again afterwards with no problem. I notice today though that the leading edge of one of the prop blades is chewed up so I'm guessing the motor cut out when I hit something semi-submerged... there's a kingy somewhere with a bad headache :1prop:

My question is should I file off the rough edges of the prop. It's not too badly damaged... the dings aren't big, just a bit rough and jagged. The prop is stainless on an E-Tec 75.

G'day Slinky ,

Had exactly the same thing happen to me not long a go , I just tapped the blade back into profile with a medium hammer and dolly , then dressed the edges with a file. Has been working just as well ever since . Same engine , same prop , what are the odds eh?

Thanks Ross,

I didn't think there were any other engines??? I see a few boats with strange mooring anchors on the back making grumbling noises, blowing smoke and using up fuel and oil, but I can't quite work out what they are.

Hmmm , Mercury , a highly toxic , poisonus substance.......

Ya know , I think your right there Sam !! :074::074::074:

I too have wondered about those things Slinky , my theory is that they are so ugly , the water repels them !!

They have a very heavy duty lower unit for HP but it is worthwile to check your lower unit oil after a hit like that and also remove the prop and have a good look at the bush to make sure it is OK and not torn. Mark the inner hub and prop so you know if it has turned and after next day out check it. Just make sure there are no chunks or water in the gear oil and also rotate the propshaft and make sure it is not bent as it is a hell of a lot of force to stop a motor. Check the bearing carrier is sitting correctly while the prop is off as on other motors I have seen them crack , twist and shatter. Preventative maintainance and a check is far cheaper than a stranding or failure- dam they are expensive to rebuild if they seize.

If you notice any vibration get it checked out as it could be as simple as pitch on one blade changed to as major as bent shafts

Very lightly tap out the ding as Ross said with backing of dolly and only use light file or emery paper to linish off the bur. Take as little metal as you can and only to remove bur . Don't try and completely remove the ding on the leading edge by filing the complete edge.

mmmmmm, you wouldn't have noticed the black objects behind "Day Release" heading back from the social Slinky because you were too busy trying not to go backwards in your E-Tech.

One Blink and the Mercs just pass you by ! :flying:

I think it might have been one of the many loose and suspect parts falling off the Mercuries that I hit. Have you counted how many props you've got Stumpy?

warning - For those born after 1970 this post will be meaningless

Thank you Bill Reynolds and Eddie Booth!! Just call each other nig-nog and white honky snowflake and leave it alone boys!!! Love thy neighbour and his motor?

Flightmanager

Eddie Booth (Jack Smethurst) is a socialist. His world is turned on its head when Bill and Barbie Reynolds move in next door with a balck max or 2. He is even more annoyed when Bill gets a job at the same factory as him, and refers to him as a "nig-nog", "Sambo", "choc-ice" or "King Kong". He also has a tendency to call Pakistanis or Indians names like "Gunga Din" and "Ali Baba". He is a very devoted supporter of the Manchester United Football Club.

Catchphrases: "Bloody Nora!" "The subject is closed". "YOU (BLOODY) NIG-NOG!" "Get knotted!"

Joan Booth (Kate Williams) is Eddie's wife. She does not share her bigoted husband's opinion of their black neighbours, and is great friends with Barbie.

Catchphrases: "Don't be ridiculous!" "Don't talk rubbish!".

Stumpy Bill Reynolds (Rudolph Walker) is a West Indian and a Conservative. Whenever Eddie tries to outdo him, Bill usually ends up having the last laugh. He occasionally refers to Eddie as a "white honky" and "snowflake", and doesn't like catching Eddie staring at his wife. He also has a very high-pitched laugh. Just can't understand etec fundamentalists.

Catchphrases: "Hey, honky!". "You talking to me, snowflake?".

Barbie Reynolds (Nina Baden-Semper) is Bill's wife and gets along very well with her next door neighbour, Joan Booth. Eddie is sometimes fascinated by her, especially in the pilot episode when she bent over while wearing hot pants.

Anyone for some snowflake soup

Hey Flightmanager.... help me out here. I'm outnumbered by people who haven't turned from the Dark Side... If we leave it much longer we'll be fighting off Chryslers and Yamahas and Hondas.

Hmm , seems to me that a certain 75HP Etec ( no names mentioned of course) helped to pull a somewhat stuck large white boat with two large , noisy black things on the stern from the beach at Clifton Gardens.

Im not surprised that no one noticed , as the Etec went quietly about its mission of mercy , whilst the large black stern mounted objects on the stranded vessel made a lot of noise , and a very impressive rooster tail of sand and water !

Sort of an aquatic David and Goliath !!

Thanks Ross,

I think that's why we didn't catch up at the social... it's because our E-Tecs are so quiet that we didn't notice each other.

I'm not surprised that nice big boat of Stumpy's needs 2 motors... I understand that Mercury use shetland ponies to measure their horsepower.

I hope at some point you'll consider employing me, even on a casual basis, for E-Tec Marine Rescue Global Inc. I can see it developing along the lines of the Thunderbird's International Rescue. You can be Thunderbird 1, I'll be Thunderbird 2, and Stumpy can be Lady Penelope that drives around in the pink car.
