blayne
Gday, Took the canoe out for a late arvo session with my mate last Monday looking for a few bass. Put the canoe in under the road bridge on the steepest muddy bank ive slid down in a while which was fun Paddled downstream from there and cast at every suspicious snag in the whole river for nothing! Did see a few rises but nothing substantial, bit dissapointed but was a nice arvo on the river in the canoe anyway. Cheers, Blayne
ARP1980
Hi Blayne, It feels like things are starting to slow up a bit up that way bass wise. Me and two mates spent a couple of hours in our yaks at Theresa Park last week for the same result (my mate did manage to pull up a dirty big eel though Will keep at it a bit longer before the bass totally shut down/move downstream but your story sounds just like ours, beautiful snags with no fish!!!! dean
I've also found the fishing's slowed up a bit after the rain. I've heard a few reports of fish further up river. Have you tried fishing the morning, I always seem to do better. I had a good session last week before the fish shut down, i was of the water at 8.30am. jewgaffer
Hi Blayne, It feels like things are starting to slow up a bit up that way bass wise.......... Will keep at it a bit longer before the bass totally shut down/move downstream ......... Hi fellas I wouldn't wipe the bass off just yet, no way. It's far too early and the temperature is still very suitable, it's just that we've had this ongoing cooler snap which resulted from a far southern front which caused unusually freaky cold conditions throughout the south and gave the Sydney area signs of any early Winter when there are still many warm days to come. I can remember getting sunburned over most of last May in the Hawkesbury before the big rain came and we are still only in early March. It's not only bass that stock up on food and shutdown only to become active again when conditions improve, the weekend's fishing results were generally shocking but only because of those ongoing southerlys. Good Sydney Harbour kingfish fisherman like Ceph and Kingies Till I Die had an awefull result apart from a lot of hard work and perseverence to find one or two kingfish which are renouned to be reasonable hardy and were caught in relatively close looking for baitfish and by jetty mutes who were starved of other fish. A good change from the east came in yesterday and fish were literally jumping out of the water, you only have to look at yesterdays reports where fishermen like Nexus and Yabbie Hunter had a field day and Robeebee and his Dad had the proverbial boat full of various species which they caught in Botany Bay yesterday after everyone else caught next to nothing in the Harbour and Botany Bay over the weekend, not to mention the poor results on the Hawkesbury apart from a few hardy kingfish caught by people I know and perhaps a few others. ARP1980 I see you managed to find the boat ramp at Theresa Park ok. Did the horses drive you crackers nudging you in the back trying to get back out when you opened the gate Cheers jewgaffer Edited March 3, 2008 by jewgaffer
GregL
Hi Guys Whats the water colour like now? Has it cleared from the rains yet? I was in the mind of bassin yesterday but after a sleep in I went breaming instead as it's so much more local for me. Jewgaffer's comment about the wind change. The bream went nut's!! Most prob the best bream session of the year so far and I had it ALL to myself Top water only and now my rod forearm is killing me! Fishing pain, the best pain to have....... Ever seen a 43cm bream shadow a top water lure for a few metres before nailing it next to the boat? Bloody cracker fishing I tell ya's! Only let down I was alone and had noone to share it with but I'll get over it once I go again! Greg

Makes a nice change from Camden or Menangle. Gave it a go about 3 weeks ago and hooked up on 3 big bass within the first 15 mins heading left towards the picnic beach area you spoke of. I think sumone has rammed the gate though because there was no sign of any horses and the gate was on the ground and looked like it had seen better days??? I hope you are right about the weather. Would be good if bass season never ended thats for sure. I've also found the fishing's slowed up a bit after the rain. I've heard a few reports of fish further up river. Dean Hi Dean, I have also found that fishing first light yealds better results in the upper nepean. There have been some occasions when things have gone well in the arvo though, but not as often as early morning for me.

At 9:30 I didn't know weather to go after blackfish(found some more weed spots) , breams or bass. Went breaming cause the river just looked to good to pass up looking out of me bedroom window. It was nice also to go out by myself, havent done it for ages. To get first shot at every spot was GOLD! G

Bass or Bream, that's a hard decision. 43cm bream sneaking up on your lure and smashing them at the last minute, that's got to be hard to beat.
