landbased
Hi all, lately i've seen a few fisho in yaks in the hacking etc and i was wondering if it is hard and what would be needed. to me it looks like a lot of fun and a good way to be closer to the fisyh and able to get into areas that otherwise i would have no hope of getting o landbased. so suppose the question is.... what would I need to have a go at yak fishing? also are there places to hire yaks and have some help learning how to and what to do when on one?? I am not able to buy one so hireing/borrowing would be my only choice at the moment. In advance thanks, Chris
arpie
Hi Chris I have been yak fishing for 4-5 years now & just love it! I just slide it onto the back of the ute (with all gear in & on it) & take it to lake/river/estuary & pop it in the water. Jump in, & off you go!! Definitely hire and/or try as many brands as you can - sit in & sit on .... there have been numerous threads on the subject previously (do a search on the front of the forum for kayak!) Also, make sure you take your rod & sps when you go out in them ..... then try a Hobie Mirage! As you pedal instead of paddle, you actually fish from as soon as you hit the water, instead of having to paddle to where you want to go & then fish. With the hobie, you use the pedals to keep you in the zone - with others, you have to keep putting the rod down to paddle back to where you want to be or keep deploying the anchor. I have a sit in (Perception Minnow) and a sit on (Hobie SPORT) and love them both dearly! I take my minnow into the leases & fish lakes, rivers & dams in the SPORT where there are no sharp shallow oysters!! Give it a go - it is addictive~! stylo
It is hacked if you do not have an anchor and there is a strong current where you are fishing. Other than that, it is pretty awesome ! I was looking to get a hobie sport this summer, but have been able to delay spending that $1,500 + on one I went a few times in my mates sit in yak and have to admit, it is a lot of fun because you are right on the water.
