Sydney Harbour

Hit the harbour this morning. Wasnt of to a good start when an ignorant old so and so jumped in front of me while I was in the queue at the ramp, blocked it, then proceeded to get his boat ready. And to top it of, reversed down BOTH lanes of the ramp at Rose Bay! :1badmood::1badmood: Some people need shooting!

I thought the stiff early morning breeze would die down a bit...and it did...but not for long!

Bumped into Mick C while catching bait at Balmoral, and I think he did OK from what I was told later.

Couldnt locate any squid, so caught some yakkas instead, and managed a very chunky whitting on the baitjig. Battled some pretty sever (damn...how do you spell sever???) chop and did a slow troll at North Head with livies, then anchored up at the marker bouy and tried to lose a bait. Very quiet. :05:

Why is it, that guys in BIG ASSED cruisers pass anchored boats as close as 4-5 meters and dont give them a second thought? I watched as this poor bloke in a little tinny was nearly washed out of his own boat by the wake of this asshole! :1tongue:

And Adam...I tried to go to the spot you mentioned....But damn it was rough!

Went to Clifton Gardens for nill result, and then noticed some bird activity out in the middle so I upped anchor and flew down there to be confronted by Pukka. I think he scared all the fish before I got there! Even fish can sense when there is a Pom around! :risata::risata: We followed a few flighty schools for nil hookups.

Tried flicking Sluggos at bouys and other things for naught! And then the wind kicked in with a vengance.

Went back into Rose Bay and flicked a strip squid bait amongst the moorings for countless baby reds, and a decent 30 cm bream. Between that and the whitting I had a feed.

What a buggar it was retrieving my boat solo in a surge like there was today. And the winds didn't help. I have never had problems like today. It took me about 15 minutes to get the bludger up!

Flushed the motor and rinsed the trailer at home before the heat made me retreat to the A/C in the lounge room! :risata: I'll finish it when the sun goes down.

Joe,

Sounds like a pretty frustrating sort of day - at least you got out and had a fish  out of this severe heat :1prop:

Just had a look at the BOM website and looks like a bit of storm activity in the southern areas, leave your boat out later and you may not have to worry about washing it down.

Joe, I reckon the fish p*ssed off when you threatened to take your shirt off again! :risata::biggrin2::1prop::biggrin2:

Me and Chopper didn't raise any pelagics unfortunately, although when we were near you I did have a very decent looking fish, (judging by the boil), 'whap' at my fin-s fish without hookin' up. :ranting2::1tongue:

We had a very frustrating time earlier in the day chasing bream under boats in one of the bays.. the fish were all over the place but were ultra spooky and very disinterested in anything we threw at them.. weird buggers bream!

We saw Mick C at the Spit on the way back and he proudly held up a decent kingy he caught earlier. Not sure if he got onto any more but he had just got a fresh batch of squid and was setting them out again when we saw him.

Good to see you out there again Joe

better luck next time Joe.  another friend was also out today and apparently it was a pretty rough day outside

they were reporting 2-3mtr swells late in the afternoon so hoping it will calm down for the weekend

I was going out tomorrow...But not anymore. I think it will be just as windy tommorrow as it was today!

I actually got over to South Head from North Head, but it was a battle. The swell was running at 2M plus, and the chop was real bad! And that was before the wind really picked up. :1yikes:

As an aside, I wasnt the only one doing it tough! All the charter operators were finding it pretty slow fishing they said.

Hey Joe,good to see you out there :biggrin2: .

We ended up with 4 nice Kings between 70-75 cm,all taken on squid.

Also got 4 around 55cm ,not keepers but still fun to catch :1fishing1: .

Got blooowwwnnn away once on a very serious fish  .

I had the brother in law with me who returns to England today.

He'll be taking some good fishy memories with him I hope. He'll certainly be taking some squid ink stained clothing home :risata:
