Davemmm
After scoring a new stradic 1000 from Pete's I have had the chance to give it a good work out four times now. Not one wind knot. Amazing. Maybe it is just a better balanaced option for the rod I am using but I think the bevelled lip on the spool is magic. The reel has taken over a stradic 2500 that is spooled with exactly the same line but as I said is performing 100% better. Dave Edit It hasen't led to more fish although that is due to my ineptitude not the reel Edited March 14, 2008 by davemmm

gretsch
We have a series of Stradics and New Stellas and they have certainly fixed the problem... thank GOD!!!!! Those older models were absolutely woeful. Cost me hundreds in braid and counselling.

Cost me hundreds in braid and counselling. are you fguys certain its the reel and not the line? i blame my knot problems on a combination of the old stradic 1000 and fireline, i will never be using fireline again, it is as stiff as copper wire!! the fact that if you dont retrieve without grabbing hold of the line for some tension means the line lays not on the spool trench itself but on the outside of the spool(the outer edge) and when you recast, thats when the knots come. ever since owning the stradic 1000 i will never go back to shimano again, not for a stella or anything! they feel cheaply built, hell yeah they are smooth but the stradic is considered one of the higher end reels and yet it doesnt even come with a air bail and feels like its a falling apart....even a daiwa regal which costs 50 bucks on ebay has air bail and feels alot more solid. id rather sacrifice a bit of smoothness for a nmore heavy duty workhorse that isnt gonna shit itself when running large ammounts of drag pressure. thoughts? I agree and diagree in the same breath and i'll tell you why??? The shimano's are smoother than the diawa's in the bottom and middle ranges, but are about equal smoothness when comparing them to the top line stuff eg stells vs exists. The point of difference is this. The shimanos' gearing seems to wear quicker than the daiwa but daiwa has exposed bearings in the handle and wear quicker. So the question seems to be worn gears or worn bearings??? I go for the worn bearings all day. This experience has come from owning all the top line reels in both brands so i dont have any real favouritism until now. Dont get me wrong the new stella FD seems to be shaping up as a real contender to the exist. I love both reels and feel that either would not be a bad choice. But i have worn out stradics, sustains, older stellas that has left a bitter taste in my mouth. While they get repaired under 'warranty' they never retain thier original smoothness and get superseeded fairly quick. Call me spoilt but i cant use reels that i can feel turning. With the 2500 on a 4kg spin outfit, I played and bought to the boat a huge eagle ray without too much stress on the reel. I would rate them just a little higher than the Stradics. BCC The twin power is basically a sustain but rebranded. In japan they call sustains twin power. So it is definately better than a stradic.
