Tale Of Two Water Ways

Having seen the easter forecast, I decided to put in 2 nights worth at the end of the high pressure system. First night was on the Hawkesbury. Put in at Bayview at about 5.00 and began a search for squid around the western shoreline of Pittwater. Had luck almost straight of and wound up with 6 lovely green eyed squid. It was a classic case of the need to change jigs when the squid were shy. Had a few prods on the greenish coloured jig then swapped to pink which was monstered each time.

Hit the river to known jewie locale and sat changing baits for 2 1/2 for SFA. Few pickers and 1 scrawny eel, that was all she wrote. Stopped by Palm Beach wharf to see if any squid were about and met Roosterman. Chewed the fat for a while while chucking jigs around.

Took the boat into work in preparation for an early getaway and ready to hit more familiar turf; the harbour and Middle Harbour. Thought I could see kings on the sounder at spot A and spent the better part of an hour feeding fresh squid to the pickers. If they were kings, I couldn't induce a strike.

Set off to quarantine in the search for more squid. Picked up one and then tried Manly Aquarium for a few yakkas.

Sped around back to spot B with a nice lightning show in the night sky. Beautiful conditions otherwise and my little squid wad spooked from the word go. No takers though and then a strong wind kicked up from the SW. I took shelter in spot C and hoped the winds would die. Sure enough, it was all but calm 1 hour later. Had a butterflied yakka that had done nothing. When I went to check, I felt weight and then a struggle. Pulled in an 80 cm lizard. I could see one hook but not the other. The old girl seemed lively though so I chucked her back with fingers crossed. Soon after, my last little yakka showed signs of serious panic. My rod with the dodgy guide buckles over and takes a run. After a good tussle, up came this 90 cm model hooked perfectly in the corner of the mouth.

Good 2 nights of fishing but the moral to the story might just be to stick to what you know best.

Cheers all.

Andrew,

Middle Harbour i presume?

Why fish the Hawksbury for eels and catfish when you can hit the known jewie spots where you can consistently pick them up.

You might get a bigger jew in the HR but you might spend a looooong time in between fish.

Harbour produces lots of smaller jews with a few bigguns in the mix.

Your on fire mate and this easter Zenman predicts a 10kg + model coming your way.

I got a plane to catch out to the deep blue sea.

Well done

PS Mate i think your becoming a bit of a jewie specialist. :1prop:

well done Andrew  .

thats a real nice jew..

wish my back was feeling better yesterday as that was final factor on me pullin the pin

and that predicted wind also... glad to see you come up with the goods for braving it out in those conditions....

i will most prob be heading down there sun night...

shame the kings wouldn't play ball, did you try yakkas or live squid or just dead/strips....

can be very frustrating especially when they follow baits but still wont feed......

well done once again....

cheers..... steve....

Hi Andew

What a nice result getting that jew after staying on at night when the southerly blew up. That's a good size jew in the pic. !! and a nice flathead too.

When you rang me earlier, I was sitting back on a balcony on the waterfront at Brisbane Waters with Grant (Arked) and family waiting for the southerly to hit to cool down after finishing up with a roasted head and sunburn and only a catching soapie jew to show for a Hawkesbury day session.

Doesn't that sudden blow up liven jewfish up!!

That's their habit mate, you've just got to be there, even though it's boody uncomfortable and you never know how much a southerly is going to rough up Middle Harbour and it could have meant a risky trip back to the boat ramp and onto the trailer especially when you're single handed!!

Sounds like it was during the run out when you hooked up?

Great you met up with Stevie Roosterman at Pittwater and got local advice from him. You're in very good company if you have a full harbour king and jew session with Steve.

Fishing with Roosterman is just like being with a charter boat operator getting amongst them on his day off!!

Cheers
