Flicking Plastics Landbased In Botany Bay

Went out late on wednesday afternoon with my 7 yr old daughter Angelique from the shore around botany

bay armed with a couple of flick sticks & a hand full of plastics in the hope of trying to catch her a first fish

on lure.

The only help that i would give her was to make the cast first, then pass her the outfit & let her wind, bounce

& pause it all the way back in,then do it again & again until hopefully a flathead or any other fish would

latch on to it.

Standing on this small rocky outcrop & having just made my 15th cast out for her,i passed her the rod & as

the lure hit the bottom & she wound up the slack, the rod buckled over & the little penn captiva's drag let out the noise we all love to hear, she was on to her first fish on lure. After a short little tussle,a small 40cm

flathead that was no match for her frantic winding, came into view,i grabbed the leader, slid the fish up onto

the rocks, let her admire it,a couple of photo's & off it went back to grow a bit more. She was pretty happy,

but i think i was more excited for her, anyway then we started over again trying for another.

That one was caught on a 3 inch pink squidgy wriggler, after having changed over to a orange mister twister

& about another 12 casts later, she was on again, this one grabbed the lure on the pause & as she went to

wind up the line, off it went, with a nice quick run & very lively little fish, which again was pretty quickly pulled

in,a quick photo & off it went also, this one was 42cm.

As the sun dissappeared & the promise of a meat pie for her efforts,we called it a day.A nice little session,

were i didnt get to have a fish myself in end,but who cares,i was very proud & heaps happy for her.

Hopefully she will look forward to coming back again with me.

cheers

steve

Well done . Great pics and article

Enjoy the special times with your daughter while she is still young

They grow up very quickly and then move onto other interests

I have a daughter who is my fishing buddy and we have a special relationship and bond from the time spent together chasing fish

Cheers

One of the best feelings in the world to see you little tacker loaded up with a fish on plastic...goes to show they do listen to what you have to say at times....congrats and I'm sure it will be the first of many....

Thanks everyone for your kind replies,i get as much excited as Angelique when she hooks up a fish

& goes crazy trying to wind it in as fast as possible,i love spending this special time with her on the

water fishing & doing something that i really love, which started for me around 7yrs old, the same

age she is right now.

Hopefully the memories & this great sport will last a lifetime for her.

Cheers
