yting
Guys what's your opinion on Tailor for Jew bait? I've been trying and trying using all methods of Tailor baits including fillet, heads, strips and tail sections. I'm targeting Mullloway off the beach. Trouble is generally other bigger Tailor keep taking my baits. Has anyone out there managed to catch Jew on Tailor? I figure that's what the Jewies in my neck of the woods (southern sydney) are feeding on. Nath
roosterman
hi Nath, i think you summed up the answer here "I figure that's what the Jewies in my neck of the woods (southern sydney) are feeding on." stick with the taylor and if all of a sudden they dissapear get ready as prob a predator hunting them... think of them as your jewy lure and burly, them chopping baitfish and all that commotion and food dispursing has gotta be good... only prob is that you will go through alot of dead baits so try to get one out live for longevity of bait in the killing zone.... i always try to stagger baits in hole/gutter with different baits, eg; livie/butterfly/slab if you know what i mean... good luck out there........hope this helps.... cheers...steve....... Jewhunter
Nats you will find that at a certain stage of the tide the Tailor will vanish. That's the time to use them as bait. Fresh, still twitching Tailor slabs are a gun big Jew bait. The Jew in the piccy in my profile was caught off the beach on a big, fresh Tailor slab. Cheers, Grant. jewgaffer
I agree with Grant (Jewhunter) and Steve (Roosterman). Sometimes a soft tailor take can be a better bait as easy pickings for jew especially when fished out of area on the day and when there are no other baitfish around. During my session yesterday with Arked, when we set up close to Juno there was a surprizing abundance of yellowtail down deep ripping up our baits and no tailor to be caught there and that also happened to Mike (Inhlanzi) who pulled alongside for a chat. However when the yelowtail dissappeared we figured that had we had some live tailer which were in shortage, we may well have been hit by a jew at some part the time we spent there after everything else went quiet. I think sometimes jew smash lone tailor hard for territorial reasons being a similiar type of aggressive feeder. Cheers jewgaffer

King slayer
Hey guys, What about the question of minumum legal sizes? Tailor is what 30cm or so. I assume this rule applies when using livies too right? I saw a dvd where guys used trevally as livies, but that was before the minimum size was in I think. Any thoughts here? The Tailor I use as baits are always large. Note using slabs. The fish in my profile was caught on a slab taken from a Tailor that was 2kgs. Big baits usually = big fish. Cheers, Grant.
