Davemmm
Has anyone been targetting blackfish in the Woronora River lately? Just want to know if they are about. Dave
luderick -angler
Has anyone been targetting blackfish in the Woronora River lately? Just want to know if they are about. Dave You will get them now but they probably won't be huge as the summer fish in the river tend to be the juvenille hatches from previos seasons (great jewie baits though) The old adage was from Anzac Day onwards in the Georges and its tributries for the bigger fish try the slipway in Woolaware Bay or Caravan Head these are early season spots as the cold water sets in you will find the fish move up to places such as Como, Lugarno and beyond the culmination will be the big runs around Lansvale and Picnic Point late July August and if to plan taper off September October sometimes you will geta run through till December. Problem is year to yearthe fish run into different systems ome years they enter the Port in huge numbers other years they run into the Cooks River and you get very few fish in the Georges and vice versa the year after This comes from years of chasing them with Dad, and he will testify to it! It is but an opinion but i would try a few spots near the mouth now and work your way up specially if you have accessto a boat if not one of my favourite early season landbased spots was Oately Point andthe rock walls at Captain Cook, Tom Uglys is not bad either. In the Wonnie my favourite landbased spot was on the Menai side oppisite the tennis courts at Jannali or you can walk into bosspits near the mouth but its dep water and races! Hope this helps Cheers Royce.
Davemmm
Great response Royce thanks. I only got back into them last year and got a few reasonable ones in late march. The juices get flowing a few weeks ago after landing two nice ones on nippers at the front of Gunnamatta in the Hacking. After reading your answer I might just leave the gear in the shed for a few more weeks though. Dave
jewgaffer
Great advice as always Luderick Angler!! Catching blackfish at Baldface and using them at night as jew baits could get Dave into the Bald Face jewfish too!! Wait till you get the new Polycraft out there Dave it will just be like fishing back to the rocky shore line for blackfish on your own mobile pontoon and no hiking needed mate. luderick -angler
Dave the hacking fires year round and if you fish the entrance from a boat you get good fish at the Hatcheries and the lampost on the western point of gunnamatta any of the good drop offs in the hacking hold resident fish try both tides if i was in Sydney i'dshow you a fewofthe lost spots in the Port not many people remeber where the blue boatshed is or lochlomond a great spot incidently Try fishingfor them now butusea trick i used a lot take some cabbage not just weed generally bigger fish fresh in from the bay prefer cabbage but always have some weed this rule applies almost everywhere try it Dave. PM of you want some tips to spots in both systems or the much maligned and overlooked Cooks River
