Davemmm
The new Polycraft is here but is still to have electrics installed. One last weekend in the old tinney was all I needed. Unfortunately yesterday I pulled it out of the garage, hooked it up to the car and headed out to get bait. I only drove ten feet and one of the trailer wheels locked up with a siezed bearing. I managed to reverse it back enough to work on it and get the bearing clear. A large sliver of ball had split off and jammed the small bearing. The problem is the axle was a home made job thirty years ago and used (I think) the stubs from an Austin or a Morris. Not exactly standard size. In the past i have got the right sized bearings from Hoopers bearings but as it is a long weekend the only places open only sell Ford or Holden bearing kits. No fishing for me this weekend. The current bearings havent had that much use but when I pulled the hub off the grease held water and the bearings looked like they had been in there for ten years. Somehow I dont think the seals worked. I'm now not sure whether I want to replace the bearings and get the trailer going enough for someone to take it (and then get all the associated problems of a very old trailer). Or just sell the tinney and junk the trailer. Dave
Seagoon
Hmmm... id replace the bearing and sell it with the tinnie and buy yourself a newie :-) Hard to sell a tinnie without a trailer... Im pretty sure that Geoff has posted somewhere about replacing wheel bearings?
