Hi Raiders,

I knew I would only get one leave pass this Easter so I saved it for the best weather day - Monday. I slow troll live baits behind a big sinker as I dont have a downrigger (one day). Anyway, I had this thought that a pink squid over the big bean sinker would make a good teaser, and I wanted to try it out.

The live yakkas were easy for a change but they were all tiny, about 7cm long. Got to the spot to see a pro sitting on it casting metals, so we trolled around for about 10 minutes before we got our first bonnie. In 10 years of fishing the Central Coast there has only been a couple of years when they have been thick. TO be honest, the last couple of seasons I dont think I have caught one at all.

Anyway, after that we had a good show on the sounder and cast a few free swimming livies out. These got smashed by bonnies (kept 4) and 64.5cm kings. So, wanting to get better kings we went back to trolling with my deadly squid/sinker combo. Anyway, suffice to say that I have burnt the squid and chucked the sinker as the other rod caught all the fish. Damn squid must have scared the kings away. The pro left as he couldnt get any kings over 65 that I could see.

Ended up with a few half decent kings. There weren't any 80-cm fish there today - and this year we have got them every time - except today, so I was a little disappointed. Maybe the livies were too small to interest them, or the little fellas got there first.

hey poacher,we scored a nice king on sunday morning trolling got to love the bonito[not what i would call a very smart fish] but great fun and good bait for thumper blue nose bream we lost a good king today on a white halco laser pro

i think maybe the kings are feeding on scotch fingers[gar fish]
