Last Sunday, Sydney, yelowtail has been taken on the drop... Z-z-z-z-zzzzz - Ping!!!! Didn't even have time to ask for help, just screamed "kingfish"... It ran away from the boat for cover like a train. Now the question: it was a 35lb paternoster rig, 20lb braid, the leader snapped midway between the swiwel and the loop - so I guess no faluty knot or piece of tackle. What would be the next leader/line to upsize? Got 40lb braid and 70lb leader (of the same kind as my 35lb leader); should I use that? Or it is too much? Thanks. Josh88 Posted March 25, 2008 Share Posted March 25, 2008 Generally 60lb leader should suffice but quite often there are no stopping some kings. I'd say that you either hooked a fairly significant fish which found something to bust you on or you had a little nick in your leader which weakened it.
