Hi all,

I new it will happen sooner or later; been told it happens when kingfish is hooked...

Last Sunday, Sydney, yelowtail has been taken on the drop... Z-z-z-z-zzzzz - Ping!!!!

Didn't even have time to ask for help, just screamed "kingfish"... It ran away from the boat for cover like a train.

Now the question: it was a 35lb paternoster rig, 20lb braid, the leader snapped midway between the swiwel and the loop - so I guess no faluty knot or piece of tackle. What would be the next leader/line to upsize? Got 40lb braid and 70lb leader (of the same kind as my 35lb leader); should I use that? Or it is too much?

Thanks.

Generally 60lb leader should suffice but quite often there are no stopping some kings. I'd say that you either hooked a fairly significant fish which found something to bust you on or you had a little nick in your leader which weakened it. If you find this is happening to often then 80lb+ may be necessary.

Cheers

Josh
