Whats a fish
ok so they ae small but i have lived away from the coast for a LONG time. first up i was having no luck so went for a cruise up the creek. The sounder was reading VERY shallow then i got near the bridge and deep water (3m +) and some fishy blips on the sounder. about 1 min after i got the line in under the bridge i hooked this and was very happy. took a pic then tossed him back 5 mins later i got this one now not knowing my fish i looked in the book and thought it may be a estuary cod but the colour was off so i rang fisheries and asked them. I was told tha the inspector is sick today but you can bring it in and we will look in the book. I kept him in a bucket of water to keep him alive, just incase. By this time i was outa prwan so swapped to squid and the line was not even hitting the bottom before tiny fingermark were nailing it. I landed 2 but the other got away. 3hrs fishing and one keeper so i'm DAMN happy. I just had to share.
Josh88
Thats looks pretty much like an estuary Cod. Whereabouts were you fishing?
Whats a fish
Up the creek behind the bowen marina. I was told it was not good for fishing but will be spending more time there.
Steve07
If its not an estuary cod, could be either a potatoe cod or a baby queensland groper, which ever one,its definately the smallest ive ever seen.
Whats a fish
The first one was tiny, and i know i have caught smaller ones when i was a kid. Also caught a feeww finger mark in the low teen range but they got tossed. Second pic is 36cm and legal.
