soft-on
Morning Raiders, Of recent i have been spending every spare minute i have to go and chase Bream on Poppers. Last night, went to Lake Illawarra and sat and watched as two massive storm cells trying their best to reach land were held back by a strong westerly? bereau predicted southerly.... I decided to have a flick being the lazy bastard i can be when its cold and windy i went to the boat ramp over dapto way. After speding 10mins tying leaders and making sure all was good i had an idea to cast on the opposite side of the protected jetty. Its protected as on the side the wind was blowing there are plastic walls. My first cast and retrieve was violent so i made the second was a bit more mundane. While i left the popper to sit and grab a cigartette from my pocket and light it boom, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz. I was on and hard!!. It was bleeding the reel of braid with each run. After a good 5-8 minutes she was landed with my blood on her. I Couldnt loose this one so 'crack'! coped a spine in the hand but oh well, all worth the wait. I am upgrading to P's for popper licence from learners. Cam
Hodgey
Good on ya Cam! Keep poppering along and you'll be on your 'open' licence in no time. Give some consideration to the use of pencil lures as well. You will be able to use the same outfit you have, and by observing the action of the lure, you will soon develop a 'walking-the-dog' method that works for you. I am making a conscious effort to do the same myself this weekend To improve your chances, have a bash at targetting them early in the morning as opposed to the evening (you're still in bass-mode, aren't ya ) Good luck mate, and keep us informed of your progress! arpie
Well done, Cam!! I always said that the 'do nothing' retrieve was deadly!! :) The fact that you see what your lure is doing just makes it all the more interesting, eh??? Roberta If you are doing the 'do nothing' retrieve for an extended period of time (eg ciggie break, drink or other break), just make sure the rod is in the rod holder ..... don't want to see it going overboard if a big one hits!! dipship
I think you earn your P plates once you remove the plastic wrapper from your grips Just jokes... nice fish to open your account. The first is always the hardest, they come easier from here.
dean
Nice fish Cam, well done. I can remember the first time i tried poppering for Bream. Big fish stalking the lure and then eventually smashing it makes for unforgettable fishing. Did you get a chance to chase a few Trout the other week? Looking forward to reading a few more reports.
