youngy555
Hey, has anybody from the newcastle area, or who know the newcastle area have any info on the better spots to get onto some kingies? Although i've never really chased them I've been lucky to accidently stumble onto some a few times in the lake and off nelson bay but dont really know any locations that they generally hang around, i know they are a pelagic mover but im sure you get my drift. I've got a 4.6 Alloy with a 50, capable of going outside but not too far, planning on giving it a shot on sunday so anyone who wants to help me out but doesnt have a boat i'd be more then happy if ya wanted to come, cheers. Youngy, the North east corner of Moon Island generally holds kingies but must be approached with caution as there is a beast of a bommie there where the water practically stands on end. You can also troll down the coast in close from swansea to Norah head as nearly all these ledges are known to hold them too, this time of year you may also hook up Bonito and frigate. I cant stress the importance of having someone experienced on board for the first few trips though until you feel comfortable at both negotiatng bars and trolling in close. Ill be out of town for a couple of weeks but you are welcome to jump on with me when I get back for a trip down to around catho. Some smaller kings have been caught very recently under swansea bridge on poppers, just be there at dawn and be prepared to stand your ground against the other anglers.
