arpie
Hi Caine Ian Miller put a booklet out some years ago (with one of the fishing mags) .... if you can find a copy of that, it would be GOLD!! I have a book called The Complete Book of Tackle Making by C Boyd Pfeiffer. It has rod recipes for Loomis & Sage & other US rods. It is terrific. From memory it is about $30 (great value, as it covers all aspects of rod building, making & repairing spinners, jigs, sinkers, even making plastic lures & hbs etc! Do a Google of "the complete book of tackle making" (with the inverted commas) and have it in Australia instead of the world .... a good one right on the bottom of the page! There is a website has lots of good info on it too - and googling 'rod building' will give you lots more http://www.rodbuilding.org/faq.html Ian Miller Rod Recipes http://www.fujitackle.com.au/recipes.htm Good luck!! What sort of rod are you planning on building ... on what blank? Roberta Edited April 6, 2008 by Roberta
davebrewer
Caine, yahoo search rodbuilding and check Australia only-it will take you to a couple of DVD's which look interesting.Roberta's talking about the Australian Rodbuilder I think which will be hard to find.Dale Clements books are probably where most of the current custom guys got started, although they may be a bit dated in some respects. There are also a number of forums online.HTH, Dave. gretsch
Mate, go to mudhole.com and look at their Rod Building 101 on line lessons. The dude makes a spin stick from start to finish. Australian Rod Builder is good. Dale Clemens books are "Custom Thread Art" and "Advanced Custom Rod Building". They are both good but a little dated these days. If you Google "rod building", you will find a host of sites with instructions on them. Get yourself a lathe as this will make the job much easier. I have a Renzetti and an American Tackle lathe. They are indispensable when it comes to turning grips, power wrapping and epoxy curing. Australian rod building is pretty non existent compared to the USA. Surf around the sites and you will be amazed at what people are up to.
