Hi guys

Well finally moved up to the gold coast 4-5 weeks ago.

Im telling you now it's sooo different to sydney in everyway it's just all really laid back and touristy.

Anyway i'll get to the fishing side of things.

Iv fished probably once every 2 days land based and in this time iv learnt alot and caught a variety of fish ranging from bream, whiting, garfish, longtom, BIG poddies, tailor, mud crabs, eels and a motza of fish i have never seen before.

I fish landbased off a jetty into one of the canals leading to the broadwater some of my memorable catches in the past 4-5 weeks would be longtom i have sight fished ranging from 20cm - 52 cm....some MONSTER bream hang around under the moored boats and pylons i reckon they would be close to 50cm but i am yet to break the 35cm mark....theres plenty of garfish, mullet, herring around if you burly with bread.

you have to go as light as possible to chase these fish i use 6lb gear and have been told it's still way to heavy....but if i do somehow hook up to something big for example a hard fighting mangrove jack or one of the larger trevally swimming around i want to land the fish.

On easter we took the boat out...as we were leaving the spit and rigging up to have a troll with various sized skirts and divers i spotted alot of birds in the one area above a bust up......not sure what it was....to slow to get the gear ready but i will be prepared next time.

So we started our troll towards a reef on the 24 fathom line troleld for 4 hours using laser pro divers and various skirts from 4-8inch's in a variety of colours.

Had abit of a bottom bash using squid, mullet, pillies for bait and tried abit of jigging around bait schools didn't do to well...then the wind picked up so we shot back inside.

Had a fish around the breakwalls inside the spit hoping for a nice bream or one of the big trevally i have heard about also have heard reports of big jewies off the south wall.

Managed a few bream from 15cm-30cm and a few fish iv never seen before.

I will post many more reports of the fishing around here...hoping to get offshore this weekend so hopefully will have a report to put up on sunday night.

cheers james

Got sharked twice today. 9/4/08

This morning my little brother jacob thought he saw a shark....i was thinkin he was pulling my leg but i had some time 2 kill so took out a reasonable sized outfit...caught myself some poddy mullet through em out on a set of gangs with a wire trace....tied my rod off to the jetty pole with the ratchet on and went inside to carry on with what ever comes along constantly checking the rod went back out 40 mins later and noticed my line was slowely moving against the tidal flow OHHH $#T untie the rod and start fighting but bites through the wire....clean cut...happend twice over the space of about 4 hours.

I will give it another go tomorrow and hopefully i will have pics to post tomorrow night.

cheers james
