When people talk of the sticks they are referring to the flats that are close into the shore between Towra Pt and Quibray Bay. Generally the middle to eastern end of that area is the sticks and the western end becomes known simply as towra Pt.

Its a little bit better known than Stinkpot, Douggies flats or Mick Moylans point which are also in the Bay.

Hi CJ_kayak and welcome :1welcomeani:

It may be useful if davemmm could refer to the map in the "GPS Marks" section. In the forum topic "Another thread suggestion", near the end of the first page (scroll down), you'll see a great map posted by Kruzenvax on the 8th Feb. It shows a map of Botany Bay with a grid.

Hi Dave. Perhaps you could refer to the map I mentioned above and give the coordinates of the places you mentioned. I'm sure other raiders would appreciate it too. At least it would give people a general idea where these places are in the Bay.

Cheers and thanks

Hi CJ_Kyak :1welcomeani: to Fishraider. Good question asking the wherabouts of a locally named spot in Botany Bay!

Good idea to have local names added to an area map Peter.

Mick Moylan's was named after Mick Moylan the owner of the pub down there which in later years was owned by Rolly Tasker. After a session you could run the boat up close to the pub which opened at 10am. Those days pubs closed at 6pm. When pubs were allowed to stay open till 10pm you could go to Mick Moylan's and watch the early years of rock and roll developing and see the the Allen bros ( the Late Peter Allen, the other part of the Allen Bos who started off in a talent quest at the Allawah Pub ), Booka Hyland, Johhny Reb and Ralph Stock on the drums. You could always take one of the ugly dance floor wall flowers from Mick Moylan's out fishing all night, you only needed an Angelo Di Marco haircut  , either if you were good looking like me or had a hair lip and a club foot.

I don't know stinkpot but I imagine it's the drain pipe system from the old Kurnell township.

Dave is Douggies Flat the place they used to swim the horses from the old Roseberry stables ? A relative of mine Grafter Kingsley was a bookmakern and lethiathan punter starting from the bush as a trainer at Roseberry track and I worked for old Vic Piggins who looked after a couple of cabs and trained horses at Eastlakes stables as well. Vic trained the only two horses sired by Tulloch to win. They were Tulrigo at 100-1 ridden by Bernie Howlett beating George Moore at Canterbury on the odds on favourite Lady Chaste by a nose and Dollarwin which won at 8-1 coming in from 25-1. It was good to be around the stables at that time, we all won a motza. I believe George Moore never rode in another race at Canterbury not long after that time.

Cheers

Hi CJ Kayak

The place that you were taken to, that you refer to as the Goal Post, is also known as the sticks.

They are just off the groynes at Kurnell and are between the oil wharf and Bonna Point.

Hope this helps out
