mrsswordfisherman
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
Guest GoFish Pete
Anzac day 2008 I have again been to the dawn service at the St Marys RSL and its very pleasing to report that the numbers are growing and more and more children are attending. My Father was an Airforce officer and on this day I proudly wear his Medals to the service now that he is no longer with us. Thanks go out to all the Men and Woman that fought for us so that we have the freedom that we now enjoy. LEST WE FORGET. GoFish Pete
bart
G'DAY FISHRAIDERS I WOKE AT 2.00 AM THIS MORNING AND THE COOK AND I WENT TO THE ANZAC DAWN SERVICE AT MARTIN PLACE IN THE CITY. THE WEATHER WAS KIND,ONLY A BRIEF SHOWER OR TWO . IT WAS GREAT TO SEE SUCH A HUGE ROLLUP TO THE CENOTAPH. A GREAT ATMOSPHERE AND ATTENDED BY PEOPLE OF ALL AGES. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL ALWAYS BE THE CASE .A GRAND GENERATION OF WW2 DIGGERS ARE QUICKLY LEAVING US NOW,THEIR RANKS ARE THINNING DRAMATICALLY. PROUD TO SEE THEIR SIBLINGS PARTICIPATING,AND IT BODES WELL FOR LATER YEARS IF THEY ARE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO DO SO. I AM OF THE GENERATION BORN JUST AFTER WW2 AND IT IS BECAUSE OF THE SACRIFICES OF OUR DIGGERS AND THEIR FAMILIES THAT YOU AND I CAN ENJOY THE FUN OF FISHING AND BROWSING THIS GREAT WEBSITE 'FISHRAIDER' WITH THAT GREAT WORD "FREEDOM". '' LEST WE FORGET'' THANKYOU ANZACS. CHEERS BART.
Dreamtime
As Commodore of the Point Cruz Yach Club My Wife and I were lucky to be a part of the dawn service that was celebrated throughout the country. As a small nation we had the pleasure of being graced with the company of the: His Excellency The Governor General of Solomon Islands - Sir Nathanial Waena and Lady Waena The Honourable Prime Minister - Dr Derek Sikua Australian High Commissioner - HE Mr Peter Wooton New Zealand high Commissioner - HE Deborah Pankhurst Deputy Prime Minister - Hon Fred Fono Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade - Hon William Haomae Minister of Finance and Treasury - Hon Snyder Rini Minister of Home Affairs - Hon James Tora Minister of Police - Hon Samuel Manetoali British High Commissioner - HE Mr Richard Lyne PNG High Commissioner - HE Mr Parai Tamei Embassy of Japan - Mr Akira Iwanade USA Consular Agent - Mrs Keithie Saunders Honory Consul of Malaysia - <Mr Yii Ging Hii Consular Republic of Turkey - Mr Yoshi Sato European Union - Dr Abdoul Aziz Mbaye We had 200 or 300 army from Australia and New Zealand, similar numbers from RAMSI and all enjoyed the breakfast that was prepared for them. Two up was played in the Point Cruz Yacht Club and my wife sent me home around 1pm today. That was the only bummer. Otherwise, we enjoyed the day, showed respect for past fallen, and extended our thoughts and prayers to servicemen and women currently serving our nation in other areas of conflict throughout the world. Lest We Forget!! I trust other Fishraiders had similar experiences today. They gave there lives then, for us to enjoy today. Please don't forget!!! Hodgey
My ANZAC Day started VERY early this morning, as I was rudely awakened by old comrades-at-arms sending me text messages. Happens every year, and I wouldn't change it for quids. Had my little 6 year old girl accompany me to her first Dawn Service. The Tuross Head Dawn Service is quite an experience. 4 'Lighthorsemen' and mounts provide the Honour Guard, and there is something very stirring about retelling the beach landing at Gallipoli, whilst listening to waves pound the beach in real life.
