pelican Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 The weather on seabreeze and BOM site are wildly different to how the wind is going to develop today and what time the change is expected. Not sure if the BOM weekend boating guide is up to date or not and same for seebreeze. they are often different but today it seems like a big difference as 30knots if getting serious. Interested to hear from others as to which is more reliable for actual on water conditions.

pelican Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 Thanks Pete Any chance thet could be put as a link in the banner at the top of the page like BOM and Seabreeze as it is quite clear and another good reference?. Will try and get out later but still is hard to actually judge windspeed on water as it is all subjective and is so affected by the land around you and wave ,tide condition that can also make it so uncomfortable. Maybe some smart computer guru should actually do a compelation of the avaliable data , live data as well , apply it with tide and landscape info into which you type your boat type and comes up with a comfort and safety rating. Overlay your GPS co-ords and the perfect spots would present themselves and then it is only up to the fish to coopperate. Guess we all have experience and a brain to do this but someone will do it if there is money in it.

What you get for free, as you see, is pretty handy. As to linking to it, it might be problematic, but we may try. If you tour that site, you will see it has what you described with punching in your present position using google earth and it will give you the latest data for those co-ords...but you have to be a subscriber for that feature. Good luck today if you go fishing. Cheers, Pete.
Robbielites Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Seabreeze predicted 14knots at 10am. The live reading showed that it was 13knots at 10am. That's close enough for me Robbie.
pelican Posted April 27, 2008 Author Posted April 27, 2008 Was referrinng to boating forcast http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN65183.shtml and Coastal waters forcast and then to seebreeze. No where on seabreeze does it get to near 30 knots as it gets to a 21knots at 1am. Big difference 21 to 30 knots. One must have been updated as earlier it was even greater discprepency. Seabreeze updates its past wind and current speeds from BOM data so it's history always compares OK- more interested in the predictions. http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN10023.html Sydney Coastal Waters, Broken Bay to Port Hacking and 60nm seawards: Gale Warning Sunday until midnight: Wind: NW 15/20 knots at first, increasing to N/NW 20/30 knots by afternoon before turning W/NW and reaching 25/35 knots in the evening, chiefly offshore.Sea: about 1.5 metres, rising to 2.5 to 3.5 metres afternoon and evening. Davemmm Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Didnt we have a thread on this not so long ago. I think the outcome was that BOM overstates the wind speed as a consequence of getting into strife for buggering it up in that bad Sydney to Hobart year. Dave
