post-6766-1209903999_thumb.jpgHi Raiders,

It was a last minute decision for the run up to the Dam nether the less a worth while trip at that.

The misses and I got to the Hollow at 9.00 am (yeah I know) had a beautifull glassy lake in front of us.

Got the first two baits out within 3 minutes of arrival and started flicking a tassie around when after only 4 flicks one of the baits was taken by a 25 cm rainbow which was a good start, just as I reset the bait after the first fish the other rod went off with the fish of the day being 46cm rainbow being landed shortly after.

There was another 7 rainbow trout landed on bait up to 32cm however didn't get any on lures this time.

Fantastic weather good company made for a nice Sunday out.

Cheers

Roffo

PS. I don't know if anyone else has the same prob with trout but the fish slime reacts with my hands for some reason hense the towels in most of my previous reports.

Well done Roffo.

Never had the skin irritation with trout, but have experienced something similar with tench. Left my hands itching for several days. :mad3:

Well done on all the trout caught,

May I ask what sort of bait u use for trout?

penguin

Rainbow coloured powerbait pellets seem to work well with me at the moment.

Roffo,

Great catch, sounds like you had a hot bite!

It was nothing like that for us on the saturday, we only raised one tiny rainbow on the nuggets.

Do you ever find that your nuggest fall off without having felt any bites? Also what size hook and leader length do you use?

Regards,

Daniel

Hi Dan,

It wasn't a bad day, A couple of times I got ripped off with out feeling a thing but not often.

I use a couple of quiver tip rods( that you can get from your local variety shop for about $25) with 2kg braid so I don't tend to miss many , that coupled with a light 2kg leader and chemically sharpened hooks is a deadly combo.

I do however spend a couple of minutes after each cast taking up almost all of the slack to the running sinking as the braid tends to float a fare bit.

I too tend to loss a few hooks during the day on the bottom however it seems to be worth it.

If you fish a few spots along the shore you will soon find out where the majority of the snags are and how fare out they are.

Funnily enough most of the trout that I get on bait come straight to the surface once they realise their hooked so it pull you out of the snags.

What I found easiest was moulding the nugget on to the leader in to a worm shape sort of if you were rolling a durry and slide the bait done to the hook leaving the barp exposed, I changed to this style years ago and was very suprised with the increase in fish I was catching.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Another good day on the lake. Perfect weather and plenty of fish. Well done.

Do you use a two hook rig, bunch of worms on one hook and powerbait on the other or do you fish with powerbait only?

G'day Dean,

Just the one hook mate, it's a bit too snaggy for two hooks.

If I had some worms with me I would fish them a metre below a bubble float not on the bottom, It tends to attrack bass on the bottom.

Heya Pete, mate I come back from a week in Byron and find you have been off smacking the trout without me  Great effort buddy and good to see Lyell still firing.

Might have to free Saturday up and give it a crack again.

Cheers
