locodave
Hi raiders, We are heading down south this weekend and staying at lake Conjola. Has anyone been there before? Is it any good for fishing? Any recommended spots? While looking at the maps I also came across Bream Beach, its a little further up, anyone been there? Is their bream by any chance What about Fishermans Paradise? Thanks Edited May 10, 2008 by locodave

DaveW
I spent three days down there last week with the family (we have a holiday house at Fishermans Paradise). In the lake proper, basically if you drift with deep jigged plastics along shorelines in the 10-20ft range you will catch as many Flathead as you want - my 4yo daughter got her first fish doing this and I can guarantee there wasn't much finesse involved I targeted Bream with lures around rocky points and had a ball releasing a heap of good fish. Conjola Creek has plenty of snag dwelling Bream, there are some very big resident fish that are a handful to stop. With the stopping of the professional netters the lake just keeps getting better Hope this helps.
troutboy
The ocean end of the lake is mostly shallow sand flats with plenty of flathead and bream and whiting. If you have access to a boat you can fish what the locals know as the steps where shallow water drops off into some really deep water very quickly. The steps are home to the monster flathead, just look around some trees in the caravan park where in the past some older fishos have nailed the heads of some really big flathead to the trees, some of them are as big as a shovel head.To the north of the main channel is lake berringer the entrance to which is sometimes impassable at low tide, but you can walk the boat over the shallow entrance and into an area that is rarely fished, have pulled some reasonable jews and large bream from this spot. Another spot worth a shot is Adder bay where you will encounter plenty of good size flathead and bream. The council caravan park has some excellent sand flats opposite that can produce some thumper whiting. Good luck and hope this info prooves useful cheers troutboy
brendong
I spent three days down there last week with the family (we have a holiday house at Fishermans Paradise). We've got a house down their too but In Lake Conjola and I'll have to concur with the Steps, Rocky Points, Bellingen and sandy's as being the places of choice. Poddy's are fairly easy to come by too if your chasing livies. DaveW - at christmas I made my way up past Fisho's and up the creek that shoots off to the right and hit that bridge....no success but thought i might be getting up in to EP or Bass territory. Have you heard or seen or even caught any whilst down there? I didn't know how much further i could keep going and whether there are too many submerged strustues etc. Also at the fork just past fisho's where it goes left (and i went right), it looks like it opens up but I got the felling it might be fairly shallow? Howdy There are Bass in there but VERY few and far between. I have also caught a handful of EP's over the years but again pretty scarce. If you were kayaking you can go a long way past the bridge (pretty much to the highway), but not much further in the average boat. On the left it's just a big shallow flat. Plenty of old timers sit on it for Flathead and do OK.
