Hi guys

Yesterday, Wendy & I hit the lake - launching at the Red Spot, same place we launched the other week. The tide had already turned & was going out, so it was going to be different, to say the least!! :( We were hoping for similar action as we had lasat time .... alas it was not to be!! The water was a lot clearer ....... so clear, I spotted an anchor that had fallen into the drink .... how do you like my new anchor???

Wendy headed left to her 'big bream' spot & I headed right, opposite the wharf, where I had lots of bream hits & flatties last time I was there. I got regular hits & misses, some longtom, pike & 2 parrot fish! I thought the real fish had all gone on holidays! :( Then I cast my Chubby to a likely spot & blow me down, the line parted & it went flying towards the horizen! Amazing how much quicker & further a lure will go when there is no line attached! I paddled around for a while & thought it was gone forever ...... I figured it should float, but hadn't factored in the speed of the out tide! :( I was about to give up & put on another lure, when VOILA! I found it!!! :) YAY!

Got a couple of small flatties ( maybe just legal) which were put back, then as the tide changed & I could get across the sandbar to the weedbeds where I'd got lots of bream previously ........ this time, I got 2 flatties to 42cm!! No Bream in sight! No whiting! This does not bode well for the yak comp next week!!! :(

Wendy got lots of throwback bream & one lovely 34cm, near where she got her nice one last time!

I kept the two bigger flatties & gave them to Wendy so her & her folks all had a fish feed for the day! I was still getting thru the smoked blackies from Yamba!

I was happy to get the fish that I caught, but was disappointed that the bream didn't come out to play! The pros were out on the water in numbers, as their Pro Bream Comp started today.

Today, Wendy went out up near Barclays & was very disappointed - she didn't really see any fish!! She tried bait & lures, with no joy! :(

This time, I started at the weed beds behind the bridge & worked my way up to the racks & went in, casting to any weed beds or drop off in sight!!! Apart from a couple of long toms & pike, no bream or flatties! I had a couple of swirls which I assume were bream ...... I wish! The wind picked up this afternoon, making it difficult to place my lures where I wanted them - spent a lot of time retrieving snagged ones ...... and avoiding the pro boats who were hooning around at a million miles an hour!! I would toss the lure, looking at where I intended it to go .... then, not seeing it land, check out the line to see where it did actually land .... & go & un-snag it! :(

As I headed back to the launch spot, I tossed out an SP & bounced it along the Breck Channel & got a nice flattie ..... almost! The bugger got off as I got it to the yak!! I put it out again & within minutes was on to a better one - about 40cm. Next cast, a tailor took off the luure's tail & I figured it was time to give it away!! There was a lot of water between fish ..... I will have to be really attentive to get one of each species on Tues & Wed to be in with a chance for the Australian Kayak Championship!!!

Cheerio for now

I'm a firm believer that bream and flatties hang around in the same spot for a long time

apart from that well done on getting a few fish

Just had a look at the megabucks results and there were a lot of bream caught but mostly small(legal length in NSW tournies is 25cm to the fork of the tail)

There awesome boats there Roberta I had the pleasure of running around in the berkely gulp skeeter a couple of weeks ago up in Pittwater

As the water is getting cooler I would put the chubbies away and fish softplastics very slowly with plenty of scent Try gulp worms and you may be surprised at how many luderick you get

Unlucky Roberta! :1badmood:

It's a bloody fickle sport, isn't it? Tides, weather, and Pro Bream Tournaments make for a challenging session. The flathead activity looked promising! After my own effort today, and the comment from Iceman, I think it's time to try plastics (or Gulp) in earnest.

Good luck tomorrow. Hope things turn around and give your confidence a boost prior to the Kayak Championships next week!!

Top effort Roberta, even though the fish didn't come out to play this time.

I think too, that fishing 3 & 4 inch plastics on the bottom would be better

tactic's this time if year to target nice flathead, even big bream.

Goodluck next week in the championship's!

cheers

Thanks for the tips guys - all gratefully received - keep 'em coming! ...... if I can catch at least a legal flattie & bream, I'll be happy - the whiting may be the tricky one .... altho I can see lots of them around!!! :( :(

Such a difference from 2 weeks ago & the only difference was the water was dirtier from all the rain!!

The gulp worms - are they the alive ones or the packets? I have some Squidgie Pro scent & Halco - Any other specifics I should try? PM me if you like!! :biggrin2:

I'll have a break from yakking today & have a go for drummer on the breakwall as it is part of the rock fishing comp as well ..... should take my big rod down & try for a jewie as well on sps at the bottom of the tide!!!!

I'll check out the tank & see what is in there! I think most would have found it hard going yesterday!

couldn't agree more Andrew

Try the 2in worms in camo and motoroil Roberta rigged on 1/28th HWS jigheads cast them next to structure and let them sit occasionally tap the foregrip of the rod with your finger just to shake the worm slightly

S facter will do the job some of the spray on scents work well to

This is more aimed at bream whiting and luderick than flatties

Many thanks Iceman - you are a gentleman & a scholar! :)

Was at the Megabucks Bream presentation this afternoon - best fish were all caught yesterday - we had a howling wind up here all day that stuffed a lot of the boaties around. Still some nice fish landed. In the wind, some went for the bs as the wind just blew all the sps the wrong way. However, some also caught on sps, so there you go!

Had a chat with Seamo - his next Bass dvd will be out in a matter of weeks ..... should be good! :) Nice bloke.

I'll be out on the water tomorrow, trying to find some spots/fish & hope to put your words of wisdom into practise ..... at least catch a bream this time!! :1prop: Hope they aren't all spooked after the pros flicking at them for 3 days!

Big Days on Tues & Wed ..... then I can settle back into blackie & regular fishing! :biggrin2: Just hope the wind dies down!! Wish me luck ..... I think I'll need it!

Forgot to say that the presentation tent nearly got blown away - a lot of the sponsors took down their tents before they blew away & the main tent over the fish tank had bits ripped & blown off it ..... also blowing off all the presentation stage, including the weighing digital thingo which was busted! So the presentation was all done at ground level.

Bloody cold, too! Tomorrow I will have my neoprene trousers & top on :) Have re-rigged with 4lb Crystal & 6lb vanish leader (smallest in both that I had on me ....) and will chance some of the oyster covered bits .... hope I miss some!

it is supposed to settle back a bit by Tues, altho there will still be wnd. I will try & get it behind me to assist my casting!! :) :)
