shefford Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Hey all, Just wondering if we should use 80-100lb mono trace for our livie rigs or steel trace. We got smashed through mono over the weekend bearing in mind it was only 60lb mono but got bitten off (not sure if this was the reef/fish) guessing the fish. Would steel stop the getting "bitten off" and would the black/wire trace deter any fish from nailing the yaka? Thanks for your help. - just wanted to ask before i go and buy heavy mono leader or steel trace

brickman Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 i was using 80lb mono leader and lost a few rigs we went 20lb s/s trace to the stinger and a short 20lb s/s leader tailor were the culprits the prob with this setup is it scars the kings off so i set 1 with s/s trace and 1 without if the mono gets smashed i repace it with s/s setup we use the tailor as live bait on the mono rig gary
shefford Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 Hmm that sounds like a good solution having one on mono and one on s/s.
jewgaffer Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Jew, Cobia atm. Hi iricangi. I generally use 60 or 80lb Jinkhai leader on the jewfish rigs. Jewfish have a large mouth and small teeth that hardly even scuff the leader. Cobia are a different ball game. When I fish up the far north coast we use crimped 150lb jinkhai on a flemish and a double line blood knot on a 12/0. Here is a pic of a group of my own rigs for the likes of Cobia when not using wire. Cheers jewgaffer
