Mullet Still Netted In Botany Bay

Apparently fisheries is allowing commercial fishers to

net mullet in botany bay

this is doing a lot of damage

W H Y T H E H E L L are we pay a fishing licence.

why the hell are the commercial netters still allowing bait fish to be harvested from botany bay

the scum are doing it late at night.

that sucks....

would that have impact on other species like flathead as ive struggled this year in the bay on flatties in places that last year and a couple years ago they were abundant.

Actually I got carried away a bit, I should not have called them scum.

I guess they are just trying to maximise their income.

But I do blame the fisheries for allowing them to have this situation.

They are very efficient as I have hardly seen any mullet in the past few years.

Have you checked with /reported this to fisheries. Isnt Botany Bay a recreational fishing haven? If it is they are not allowed to undertake any commercial fishing. How do you know this is happenning late at night?

Hi Guys,

Just double-checked and Botany Bay IS definitely a rec fishing haven and commercial Mullet hauling is positively not allowed. If this is happenning it is illegal.

It is legal, some commercial fishermen are allowed to catch BAIT from the bay,

it can be mullet, squid etc.

I did call fisheries and the inspector did comfirm it with me.

all sound suss,i know a dutch guy who owns 2 longliners based in tonga

i asked him what they use for bait and he said yakkas they aparently buy them frozen by the tone

pritty shore they bye then in australia as there in eden at the moment
