spikey
We put out boat in at around 6.00am Monday the 26th May at foreshore Drive Botany and after mucking around we got 2 the heads at 6.30. I let the Honda 4stroke Pushing the 6.22 Markham open up and told the boys 2 hold on as we were punching the soft 1metre swell at 27Knots. We arrived 2 browns at exactly 7.15am not a bad run at all. So as we started 2 make our way 3Nm sth east I came across a school of fish erupting on the surface only got a chance 2 get 1 rod out when we hooked up... not the fin we were after but a nice 3.5Kg striped tuna... will make good bait anyway.. After It was landed we lost the school and made our way strait to our mark... after starting our cube trail for around 5mins we were hooked up on the penn international 30 spooled up with 15Kg and after a 10 or so minute fight my mate had him 2 the boat.. But he still had heaps of life left in him and we played back and forth tug of war for the next 20mins till he was close enough 4 me 2 hit him with the gaff. Unfortunately he took another dive at this point but I didn’t let go and the weakest link broke... being the $60 gaff... it was bent in 3 places as the fish went under the boat and then he straightened the hook. Lucky I carry a spare... after another 5 minutes playing around i had another lash but i wasnt gonna give him a chance so as i hit him i pulled him half way into the boat till my mate helped me bring it in the rest. The biggest of the days catch hit the deck a solid 48Kg fish... around another 20mins after that i was on this time and was lucky 2 hook up on the international50 spooled up with 24Kg so after a breif 20min fight i had the fish 2 the side of the boat where my mate took an air swing 1st time around with the gaff that gave me a heart attack.. I told him 2 go 4 the head, and what happened next surprised me as he gave it a solid hit in the tail. I don’t know how his 51Kg Frame held onto the 47Kg Fish when it was thrashing around but he did... even if he bent our back up gaff. So I grabbed hold of the handle and helped heave the fish in. after that it went a little slow. We had the fish coming into the trail the whole time but going past our whole pillies... so we used the little cubes instead and whack on again. the owner of the boat 65Yr old rob only last 5mins with the next fish so we took the rod off him and had the fish in and landed in around another 20 Mins. This was the smallest and 46Kg. we Hooked up another 2 times... the biggest fish of the day i had next 2 the boat but my deckie was 2 worried about cleaning the boat 2 gaff my fish and he slapped on surface a little and swam 2 back of boat snagging on bilge.. Not 2 worry thou as we already had 1 fish each...
