Guest GoFish Pete
Hi all Three words UNREAL DAY OUT.....that sums it up. Myself , Shaun , Lisa and a good customer Big John decided that we would go and chase the Yellowfin in my Brother in-laws 26 ft BlackWatch called Black and Blue. We all met down at Brooklyn Marina at about 6.30am and set off for Browns , what a long haul that is but more than worth it. We approached Browns and got onto channel 96 to have a chat to Steve from East Coast Bait Supplies that supplies us with really great bait for the shop , he was out for a shot a fin with an old workmate Dave and another guy. They were 5 miles or so south of Browns trolling and had seen a few fin landed but had at that stage not had a hit on lures. After a quick chat with Steve he thought that good water was about 3 miles east of Browns so of we all went. Three boats in a line with us set up in the middle , we all start cubing Big John throws out a livie and within 2 minutes we were onto a Yellowfin , John played it till his back was aching then Shaun took over and finally after about 30mins it was handed to me to finish the fight.Big John decides to put out another bait and zzzzzzz we now have a double hookup , how good is this. Shaun does a good job with the gaff and the first one that is a 29kg tagged fish is in the boat , high fives all-round and now back onto the second fish. By this stage Big John has been on it for 20mins and is aching so I harness up and take the rod. This is a good fish and its on the lightest outfit , 15kg and a seized roller tip. I play this fish gently for about an hour and twenty minutes and I reckon its about 10metres more to the double but every now and then I feel a bit of slightly frayed mono going over my thumb so its not looking all that good. And that moment that we all dread "Ping"" its gone ,I just sit down think of what might have been but I enjoyed the fight anyway and the day is not over. Steve and his mate in the other boat haven't hooked a fish even though they are right next to us , so they head back to Browns to try there. We have drifted a long way by now while I played and lost the big one so we shoot back slightly beyond where we started our trail , we start cubing again and within ten minutes my line starts to peel off , apply some drag , lift and I'm on but this time on my rod and reel , now I have confidence. I play this guy for about fifteen minutes and then zzzzzzz hold on tight Lisa now she is on and line is peeling of the Stella another double hookup. Shaun grabs the trace and Big John sinks the gaff in and a 35kilo fin hits the deck are we all happy or what. There are yellowfin darting around the back of the boat just eating our berley trail.....awseome. Lisa is stuffed by now and hands over to Shaun to finish this one off and a 31kilo fin hits the deck but not before Big John gets himself onto another fish , now this is awesome. We force big John to finish this fish himself from start to finish , I crack open a can of vee and he gets a mouth full every now and then , these fin just slug it out and then finally you see colour and the circle work begins. By now we are seeing Albacore smashing baits on the surface but we are stuffed lets just land this one and head home with them still biting. We finally land Johns fish and its a healthy 30kilo model. We chat to Steve and Dave and decide to give them a fish as they still hadn't had any luck. All in all a we had a top day out and now have some nice fin to eat. If you can get out there safely give it a shot it could really be worth your while. frankp
Nice fin Pete, well done. We were out yesterday also and didnt turn a real, it was bloody disappointing. I met your mate from a tackle store at the boat ramp when we were coming back in and boy was he upset. He said he could see people all around him catching fish including yourself but nothing for him. Guest GoFish Pete
Exceptional fish! How long were you waiting before throwing the next cube overboard? When your last cube dissapears from view its time to toss another one over , probably every 15 seconds. Even when playing a fish you must keep the trail going. Awesome fishing Pete and well deserved reward for effort to all concerned You've sure got another happy customer Cheers jewgaffer Pete I suppose Mike Inhlanzi was busy with work. Yes I did message Mike but he had other committments , oh well next time perhaps. Another customer was also invited along but it was his sons birthday , for him to come along it would have been "Game Fishing "
