micren
Hi all I am a new member & a new fisherman. I have some use of a holiday cottage at Carey Bay lake macquarie It has a jetty, but there is considerable weed. I have bought a graphite 7 ft rod & good reel. I have used many baits & found bottle squid gets most bites. Lots of small bites but have only got 2 keepers in many many hours of enjoyable effort I will be back there again on June long week end & think I might use a float on the line. Can anybody suggest suitable hooks, bait, rigs,...... ANYTHING ....that could help me catch a fish in your beautiful Lake This is my first email to your website so I hope I have asked the right questions Thanks micren
squizzytaylor
Micren, as a carey bay resident I can say that the bay is a bugger of a spot for landbased fishing as it is very weedy, Even worse in winter when the flathead are a little quiet. The bream have been very active lately though so perhaps you should be flicking a prawn out around the moored boats and dont be afraid to flick the soft plastics under your own jetty too, there are some cracker bream under your own feet quite often. Cant beat the 4" turtle back worms in Pumpkinseed for the plastics, I usually cut them down to about 2" long and have found that this improves the hook up rate. Drop me a Pm a bit closer to the long weekend and Ill let you know whats biting. Cheers geoff
